Here's look at the news and notes in regard to USC recruits and recruiting from over the weekend, including big performances from commits, and a defensive back target committing to a Pac-12 rival.

USC 2020 Recruits in Action

WR Joshua Jackson Jr. and Narbonne defeated rival San Pedro by a dominant score of 53-0. Jackson did not play. Narbonee has their bye week this week and faces off at Gardena on October 18th.

TE Jack Yary and Murrieta Valley lost to Chaparral at home by a close score of 30-27. Yary and Murrieta Valley’s comeback effort came up short against a strong Chaparral team, though Yary finished with four receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Murrieta Valley looks to rebound when they play away to Temecula Valley this upcoming Friday.

DT/RG Jamar Sekona showed out for his future coach - USC defensive line coach Chad Kauha’aha’a - as Marin Catholic defeated Terra Linda by a score of 53-6. Led by their tenacious defensive line, Marin Catholic looks to extend their streak when they battle cross town rival San Marin this Friday.

DT Kobe Pepe and St. John Bosco played in their toughest match of the season against a quick paced Servite squad. The 27-26 game was ultimately decided by a strong defensive stand against a 13-point 4th-quarter comeback by the Servite offense. Bosco, still undefeated, faces another tough task when they play away to JSerra on Friday.

OT/DL Andres Dewerk and Los Gatos got blanked by a score of 37-0 when they played away to Wilcox high school last Friday. Dewerk recorded 1 tackle and 1 assisted tackle on the night. Los Gatos looks to get back on track when they face off against Santa Clara this week.

OT/OG Andrew Milek (photo above) and Brophy College Prep defeated Hamilton last Friday by a score of 27-14. While not reflected in the box score, Milek had a strong performance as the team recorded 322 total yards. BCP looks to stay undefeated when they face off against Chandler at home on Friday.

OT Joey Wright and Bishop Monague of Reno recorded their second straight lost as they were defeated by Damonte Ranch at home by a score of 27-10. The offensive line struggled as Damonte Ranch recorded 5 sacks and 2 QB hurries on the day. Bishop Monague looks to get back on track when they face off away against Carson this Friday.

OG Kyle Juergens and the St. Margaret Tartans defeated Bellflower by a score of 48-7. The offensive line, led by Juergens, performed strong all night as the Tartans had plenty of room to run all over the opposing team. St. Margaret’s plays home to St. Joseph this Friday.

OL Jonah Monheim and Moorpark recorded a blowout when they defeated Thousand Oaks last Friday by a score of 35-0. Moorpark’s offensive line gave the offense plenty of time to perform as Thousand Oaks defensive line was rendered ineffective against this strong unit. Moorpark looks to continue winning when they play a strong Grace Brethren squad at home on Friday.

USC 2021 Commits in Action

QB Jake Garcia and the Narbonne offense routed San Pedro by a blowout score of 53-0. Garcia completed 10 out of 17 passes for 152 yards and 1 touchdown. Garcia’s longest pass was for 33 yards and he ended the night with a 108 QB rating. Narbonee faces off at Gardena October 18th.

OLB Ma’a Gaoteote and St. John Bosco slipped past Servite last Friday when they won by a score of 27-26. Gaoteote recorded 3 solo tackles on the night as Bosco’s defense struggled to contain Servite’s momentous 4th quarter. Bosco’s undefeated record remains at risk as they play away to JSerra Catholic next Friday.

DT Jay Toia and Grace Brethren defeated Bishop Diego of Santa Barbara last Friday, by an overwhelming score of 42-13. Toia had himself an excellent outing with 3 total tackles (1 solo) and 3 quarterback hurries. Grace Brethren looks to remain perfect on the season when they face off against Moorpark this upcoming Friday.

WR Velltray Jefferson and the Edison Tigers defeated Madera South last Thursday by a score of 40-23. Jefferson and the offense executed down the stretch and put away this contest in the second half. Edison looks to defeat Madera of Fresno this upcoming Thursday.

Recruiting Notes

USC cornerback target Ayden Hector (Sammamish, Wash./Eastside Catholic) announced his commitment to Stanford on Monday afternoon. Hector looked to be a USC lean early in the process, as his father played football for the Trojans and USC was in early on his recruitment. USC brought in a number of defensive backs in the 2019 class, but do not yet have a commitment from a cornerback or safety in the 2020 class.
