Totally forgot about another conversation I had. Met Kenwick Thompson who was previously the DC at Cal with Tedford, went to ECU, and is now back at Fresno St. He's very familiar with the P12 from his time at Cal, and Im sure someone will have more info on him than I can provide. Short story, the Trojans better be ready for this Fresno team come Aug 31. Yes they lost come kids from last seasons 12-2 team that beat ASU in the Sun Bowl 31-20 (the same team SC lost to at home 35-38) but they didn't lost ALL of their players and lets just say the message was pretty clear that this IS their bowl game for 2019. Expect yoooge Fresno crowds based on what he said is brewing. They are actually hoping it will be 90 degrees + since that will feel like home to them and they think the Trojans won't be ready to deal with the heat (= soft). Hopefully CH and team aren't overlooking these guys.

Tedford's offenses could not score much against USC's defenses, not sure it will change this year.

As I wrote before, I still think Fresno St has a decent chance at beating Helton’s team. It won’t be easy, but it virtually goes without saying that Tedford is a better coach and, even though he lost several starters, he will have his posse ready for a throw down.

This game is no “gimme”. USC had better be ready.

It’s important that we win this game, and look good doing it.

Tedford’s offenses couldn’t score much against Pete Carroll’s USC defenses.

Tedford’s Cal teams were never the same after Aaron Rodgers went to the NFL, and he was eventually fired.

But I’m not expecting nearly that big of a drop off here at Fresno St, as back then Rodgers was a “once in a generation” type QB who went on to be a certain NFL HOF’r. But I’m interested to see if Fresno St. can sustain last season’s success having lost quite a few starters, including their QB.

Regardless, if the USC staff takes them lightly (they won’t), there’s a real good chance they lose this game and the “fire Helton” chants from late last season will return in force.

THIS will be true. A loss here and everything negative just picks right back up where we left off last season. Big time.

The first 6 games are daunting should confidence be lost by the players....it could get REAL ugly.

At the same time, Helton has that chance to quell the critics and build something. Make or break season.

All this is true, but it’s also the same thing they said last time.

They’ll put up a fight but it will be SC by double digits when the fat lady sings.

FWIW#2.. I haven't had the pleasure of speaking to many College Football Coaches so maybe this is super obvious to those that have, but Kenwick was very pleasant and articulate and generally a "cool dude". He has tremendous respect for USC football, and yes we bantered back and forth. He made the comment that while he's obviously 100% locked in on his job, generally speaking it's best for CFB when USC is good. He had some choice words about the character of and the business dealings of LS too, but I'll save those for another post.

I'll never forget the 4th quarter last stand at the Coliseum..Place was rocking as Petes Defense kept them out of the end zone. They had it 1st and goal from the 9 yard line..4 plays later 0 points..We won that game 23-17.

Very true, however, Tedford should be very knowledgeable about Clancy’s defense, he was the DC for Tedford at CAL. Clancy is pretty predictable and hasn’t changed his philosophy or methods since his CAL years.
Tedford being an offensive minded Coach will surely have a solid game plan to counter our defense.
One of the key considerations for Tedford will be Fresno’s defense and how well it adjusts to the Air Raid. It will definitely be an interesting game.
If Helton stays out of the picture, it will be cerebral on both sidelines.

Hopefully it goes both ways then, that Clancy should be familiar with Tedford’s offense having worked with him, and will be ready to deal with it.

Then the difference maker would be Tedford’s defense versus Graham Harrell’s offense - advantage USC.

Sure I know we are suppose to be doom and gloom this season, but the Harrell offense with our four elite receivers and great power backs could be special. One thing for sure is defenses will not be able to tee off on our qb.

Exactly. And if the O is rolling, the D won’t be on the field 40+ minutes and could be special too. Don’t underestimate our new punter either, he could end up being a weapon by himself.

Having a good punter and a good offense. Would make our defense even more scary, if they improve this year.
