Clay needs to beg to get Alabama back on the schedule for a home-and-home in 2021 and 2022.
Drop SJSU and make it work Bohn.
USC is trending. We got this.

Another potentially great HC candidate is off the board. 49ers DC and Pete Carroll disciple Robert Saleh is the new Jets HC.

We were never going to match or come close to NFL money. In fact if we did hire Urban by chance he would have bailed for this deal regardless. Let's not conflate the firing of Helton with a home run hire. Helton needs to be fired on his lack of merit regardless of coaches in pipeline. Though this is the one year not to pull the trigger I must confess.

I think urb will fail miserably in the NFL.
In Coll football the coach is the star. He never deals with men like him who get paid in some cases more than him.
it took Pete a trip to college to get another shot at the NFL.

How many Pete’s are out there ? Even Nicholas failed .
The head coaches that make the jump to the NFL find out quickly that what
worked in college does not work in the NFL.

Let’s see if urb can beat the odds. I say no.

    Aaand.....

Hopefully once Meyer flames out in the NFL, he can land back in college here at USC, just like Saban landed at Alabama after his own failed stint as the Dolphins coach.

    Thank God for legalized weed......

Only 3 coaches have won a college national championship and a Super Bowl.

    1. Jimmy Johnson
    2. Barry Switzer
    3. Pete Carroll

And honestly while I believed in Switzer as an all time great college football coach.
He lucked into that Super Bowl win with the Cowboys IMO.

He might do solidly. But the NFL is a different ballgame.

I would love to have Robert Saleh leading this program. He always struck me as someone who would have all kinds of success here. The type who could thrive in college ball. This announcement just bums me out.

People can ridicule us for desperately wanting a regime change with Urban, but it really sounded like 2 years ago he was promoting himself through his Saturday on air broadcast with Reggie and Matt. Even Reggie kept endorsing him that made us believe this was a possibility. Urban went on record saying coaching at USC was a premier job and it was still highly desirable.
That is the same time the fan base who were also desperately looking for a coaching change also began questioning his past ethical behavior regarding covering up for Zach Smith at OSU regarding a highly sensitive topic in domestic violence. In short he got caught lying. This was also the same time Folt had transitioned in and one of the main reasons she was hired was to stop the hemorrhaging with suspect individuals that would bring potential liability and to possibly tarnish the university’s image.
Well time has past and we don’t see that was a main consideration in the Jacksonville hire. I did not hear their fan base complain about his past as they too have the same passion to field a winning program.
The same with Sark and his past history with alcohol abuse. The fan base overlooked that as fielding a winning program is a higher priority.
It brings me back to my original point, that there was genuine mutual interest in Meyer considering our program. He definitely is a proven winner at the college level. Saturday mornings was his time to continually promote his skill sets to our administration of how he could have fixed our broken program. Our administration mainly Folt was not interested. Therefore you can not blame or ridicule the majority of the fan base as seeing or desperately wanting the Urban myth to come true.
Lastly, once again, even when Helton is eventually let go, is USC still the coveted head coaching job that Meyer promoted?
    Fight On!

The fan base and football loving alums want a winning team. The heads of the University no longer prioritize winning football games/championships. That leaves us exactly where we are and that's discussing whether 9-3 or 8-4 is a successful season.

Now that Urban's future has been established it is time for True Trojans to get behind CCH and stop the moronic Helton hating repertoire. No one better is available. Clay led USC to 5-1 in 2020. The divisiveness expressed on this board slamming all things Clay is toxic and serves no purpose. Our players need to know Trojan supporters are behind the team 100% to ensure success.

Except there wasn't unless you consider the fan base mutual interest, and we now know that the fan base is totally irrelevant to any discussions about this coach and any other future coach. They may have been relevant in different times but that's in the past just as the power of athletic donors is now in the past. Meyer was a pipe dream created by a news media that had nothing better to do with its time. He may very well have been interested in the position until he found out that (a) we couldn't or wouldn't meet his salary needs, (b) he would never get the level of control he had at previous jobs (like covering up Aaron Hernandez's misdeeds at Florida), and (c) the people who do the actual hiring either had no interest in him or were downright hostile to him.

Your choice of "conflate" is interesting. When you Google the word, here is what comes up as an example: "the urban crisis conflates a number of different economic and social issues". LOL!

The fact is, Helton was never going to get fired after this season no matter how much the fans felt we sucked and it's going to be a stretch whether or not he is going to be fired after the 2021 season. And to think we can win a bidding war with the NFL is beyond ridiculous.

Not gonna happen. Schedules were set years ago. Due to covid 2020 was an aberation.

Nice thought, but he has recently said how disillusioned he is with the changing face of college football, transfer portal, player perks, etc. Like Carroll, the right amount of control with the right price makes the NFL attractive for him.

Given that he's Superman, he probably *could* "suck a golf ball through a garden hose!"

USC's administration may want to change Clay Helton - I'm sure they can see he's a distinctly mediocre coach, but any potential candidate must meet these requirements:

    1. Willing to be "counseled" (or rather, steered) by administration officials and the AD. No autocrats need apply

    2. Has a spotless personal record. No history of drug/alcohol abuse, womanizing, wife-beating, children-abandoning or otherwise general lack of morality (like cheering for UCLA)

    3. Runs a tight ship re: off-field disciplinary issues. Is he a coach who protects his players like they were his own kids, or is he willing to hang them out to dry at even the mere allegation that they've done something wrong?

    4. Most importantly - is willing to work for cheap. USC is still reeling from the financial repercussions of the Tyndall scandal, and spending money on a big-name coach is just bad optics right now.
