Stanford offense vs SC defense: Stanford has lost a lot of production on offense. Costello is not a running QB, but he is mobile. Their OL is pretty good. I can see them gashing us with big pass plays. Hopefully we will be able to stop the run.
SC offense vs Stanford defense: Last season SC was a victim of a poor offensive game plan. This led to a 3.1 yard per carry average and 47% completion rate. Daniels tried to pass into double coverage and tried difficult throws, instead of taking what the defense gave him. This high percentage offense should help. Lets assume that Slovis can run the offense without a major dropoff.
Stanford's defense is talented and well coached. Our offense will have some struggles. But FSU showed us it will take a true running QB to really expose our defense, which Stanford does not have.

I do like our run defense against their run game, but I do not like our DBs against their WR.
I like our run game. I like our WR.

It may come down to who the refs (or Pac12 lawyers) like best.

    The Farm 24, Trojans 13

This is a tough one. Even if Slovis comes out and starts out strong (as I expect) and has a good game, I have zero confidence in our braintrust to adjust and see our offense going stagnant again in the second half. Barring a special teams or defensive score I don't see us scoring more than 13-17 points.

    Burn the trees.

My thinking is that we weren't going to show too much of our offense in FSU game and GH has a much better gameplan versus Stanford.

Stanford 17 USC 6. I see the Trees stuffing the run, getting pressure w/o blitzing and sitting on the short passes. They play a field position game, create a couple of turnovers and wear out our D. Unless we can run in obvious running situations it may be a long day. Not a blowout given Stanford's style of play but it may feel like we could play all day and not get a TD. My only optimism is that our WRs looked much better than last season. If the Oline can protect Slovis and give him some time to stretch out the Stanford D, it might be interesting but Stanford's style is less QB dependent. So if both starters are out, that is likely an advantage for them.

I like our back up more than I like Stanford's back up. So, assuming we don't pull another double number, and can continue to only have 35 yards in penalties I like our chances.

If Costello plays - 38 to 14 trees. 24 to 17 trees if Costello is out. Either way, I expect A LOT of running by our offense with Slovis' first start and the desire to keep their O off the field. Not going to be pretty.

I also predict Air Raid will never hit its stride this entire season. Dead in the water as soon as we lost JT.

All the coming teams are going to blitz a lot
Need a mobile QB who can escape the rush
    Otherwise more injury

I think the OL is starting to gel and our running game is good. If we can up tempo Stanford, I predict SC 35 Stanford 27.
