“In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence.”

While Helton is the most obvious example of the principle, this concept seems to permeate all of Heritage Hall. In a well run organization you have competent employees reporting to competent leaders. When was the last time that was said of SC?

With SC’s system of promotion based on nepotism (see Lopes’s son) and hiring based on maintaining power its's tough to see a way out of our current situation.

I’m for the hiring of a JDR for DC not necessarily because he’s the best candidate, but simply because he would add competence and room for growth to the staff. Harrell, and maybe Colbert and Jinx, are the only coaches on staff with room for advancement. Since it appears we're stuck with Helton anything that would threaten and shake-up the hierarchy of incompetence would be a win.

Lopes probably deserves to be fired more than clueless.

Didn’t he admit to wanting to hire Cutty sark?

We all know how that turned out ....

He was probably a Swannie enabler, too.

Lopes was instrumental in getting Patrick C to hire that drunk. Great job of vetting on that one. SMH

Yes I knew he was behind the hire in some way. Thanks.

I'm all for JDR too. It should be an absolute requirement now that Helton has been retained that Clancy and Baxter are history. Give Helton the benefit of the doubt that he didn't want to make changes for the bowl game. That should mean this friggin team is ready to give a solid effort.
Expect success in the game and nothing less.

Then Helton needs to make sure that Clancy & Baxter are shown the door next Saturday.

Just a horrible decision. Haden was 10x worse for SC than sanctions

JDR would not only be a good DC, but his presence would make Clay very uncomfortable, as he knows his new DC would want his job. It would also be a sign that Clay's influence is diminishing. And, it would mean a return to live tackling and punishing practices, something Clay disdains.

We’re at a point now where the administration and athletics department have done more to damage than the NZAA could have ever imagined in their wildest dreams.

The NZAA is rolling around laughing at all of USC’s stupidity and incompetence and the self inflicted wounds year after year after year. WTF is wrong with our university? Why is it Groundhog Day every day?

I’m gonna go with Petros Papadakis’s take, which is that it’s a swamp, people wanting to keep their jobs, people not wanting to let go of power, etc. Makes the most sense.
