The answer to all your prayers will be made clear in 10.5 months. And yet, as you are surely aware, sometimes the answer is no.

9-3 or better means he stays.
7-5 or worse means he's gone.
    8-4 ? Coin toss.

Think I'm wrong? In early November, I said Clay would likely stay on for 2020. OC Trojan wanted me to place a bet on it. Unfortunately, I don't gamble. I could have made a lot of money off you guys. Well, not really. None of you would have paid up.

BTW, I'm not a Clay lover. But I don't hate him either, and I'm not about to root for us to lose. I'm a realist and the reality is that he is here for the coming season, no matter how many donations are pulled or how many season tickets get cancelled.

The level of hysteria around here is flat out insane.

You say hysteria, while I say the majority of the fans have an inability to resign themselves to taking it dry from behind while cheering. This doesn't make you a better fan. This makes you an enabler of mediocrity and shows a complete lack of discernment.

7-5 with a win over UCLA and I bet Helton stays. And I NEVER welsh on a bet.

    he’ll absolutely be retained if....

    or absolutely be fired if....

Just imagine the BOT/Ath. Dept meetings having to unf*ck this stuff:

    • Dr. Tyndall scandal
    • Dr. Puliafito scandal
    • Aunt Becky scandal
    • Lyn Swann debacle
    • Haden during/post-tenure debacle (resurfaced w/ Orgeron's win)
    • Nikias debacle
    • Ath. Dept shakeup yesterday
    • FB Coaching staff mess
    • SC's diminished FB prominence on a national stage (more like laughing stock)
    • Recent recruiting class

    I'm sure I left a couple out.

And you think the fanbase is hysterical? Who wouldn't be, after this shit-show? I'd rather be on the BOT of Boeing right about now...

Not hysterical, depressed is a far more appropriate term. Though I think Helton is on borrowed time. I think everybody is getting cleared out.

Maybe that's right. But my sense on this has always been that a good HC candidate will not want to come to an environment where coaches get fired for going 8-4, not matter how storied the school's legacy once was.

I'm also a realist ($20 Million buyout and USC football revenue was ~$60M in 2018) and I disagree.

I think it'll take 10+ wins, mostly blowout victories, sweeping the rivals, winning the bowl game, multiple conference/national awards, many high draft projections and at least one "Is USC back?" media cycle for CCH to save his job. I don't think he can do it, but I'll be happy if he does.

Either way, the narrative around the program needs to change. The toxicity surrounding the program/fan base is turning people outside the program who grew up wanting to be a part of the tradition away.

    Fight On!

And you will show your disgust by keeping your season tickets and attending every home game?

I agree completely with your reasonable post. I wanted Clay gone, but since he's here for another year, oh well, I will ALWAYS root for our Trojans. Just a quick analysis: the PAC-12 South will not be that good. We play Alabama, Oregon (at Autzen) and Notre Dame. 9-3 might be a realistic result.

Hysterical huh? Fan bases at OSU, LSU, Alabama, Florida St, Texas, Oklahoma, etc would have already burned down the school if they had retained someone like gomer after 5-7 season.
