It’s pretty safe to say that he should be better than Clancy in that regard.

    Yes sir!!!
Safety DeShon Elliott (Ravens) Don't you remember the smack down he put on USC? Against Sam Darnold 2 picks just missed a third one and 7 tackles in one game. He was everywhere. That was an Orlando coached defense.

Ed Oliver (Bills) was the big name under Orlando in Houston.

At Texas he coached Poona Ford (Seahawks), DeShon Elliott (Ravens), Kris Boyd (Vikings) and Malik Jefferson (Chargers).

At Utah State he coached Zach Vigil (Redskins). And at FIU he had Johnathan Cyprien (Falcons).

Starting fresh, I like him. Regardless of the last year in Austin, he has a solid history. He talked about being aggressive, and being physical. Two things we haven't been able to say about our D in quite some time. He also talked about recruiting. We all know that Clancy really wanted no part of that. Welcome to the Family Coach. FIGHT ON

Maybe Orlando has those 4 silent commits.

Hope for the best. Doesn't seem like he was sought after like some others but 3rd or 4th choice on the cheap and pray is the USC way. Sometimes it even works.
He's got a talented core to work with.

Erik-who do you see as the Rover in Orlando's defense? My immediate thought was Talanoa but are you thinking a beefier LB-type guy like Gaoteote, Mauga, etc?

Typically it's a linebacker. I could see EA in that role and I think he would be really suited to it. A lot of coming downhill and doing whatever you can to make plays in the backfield. Malik Jefferson was really good there for Texas in 2018.

Physical practices and physical play. Sounds promising. I wonder if this will mean recruiting larger DBs, especially corners, for run support.

He says all the right things, including physical practices. Does this mean Helton promised him physical practices? Has that doofus finally seen the light or just doing his usual snake oil salesmen job. We have to wait for practice reports to see if anything changes. I am not really counting on it.

Nice write up EK, quoting former players of his and Orlando’s past comments gave us a good snapshot of his career.
