I guess I'd rather have the starter--JT, obviously--be more prepared than worrying about whether the 4th string guy gets his reps.

You think there's a "competition?" Uh, OK. Tell me again how all 4 guys have an equal shot?

Competition doesn't mean equal chance or shot. I've never heard that in sports, business or life.

PC should have changed his motto of "Always Compete" to "Always Have An Equal Shot" since they mean the same thing.

"Competition Tuesdays" should have been changed to "Have An Equal Shot Tuesdays".

Are you under the impression that all of the QBs that CPC had got an "equal shot?" I'm pretty comfortable with CPC giving the obvious starter more reps, rather than limiting the starter's development in favor of throwing a bone to the 4th string guy.

Mark Sanchez said that he got more reps on the Scout Team than he would have otherwise--certainly more than the backup got in practice--and he was facing the #1 defense. Given that some posters think JT needs more work and perhaps should have stayed in HS another year, limiting his reps doesn't seem smart to me. I guess we'll agree to disagree. First time I've heard someone arguing that CCH has a better feel for this sort of thing than CPC, tho.

Nice job, Chris. I agree with you on Drevno as a good coach, but I don't like his recruiting. Mostly what we sign these days is 3-star guys that were Louisiana Tech, UNLV and Boise State targets.

I know your view. But now let's talk about scholarship logistics as well as preparation for replacement in case of injury.

Taking into consideration the rest of the team in practice:
    The ones play the ones
    The twos play the twos
    The twos play the ones
    The ones play the twos.

Perfect for a four QB rotation.

But even more important to my mind is if you give the incumbent more snaps you have to, by default, give the other three less snaps.
By your standard someone has to pay reps. Who is that? Which QB(s) takes fewer snaps? You are thinking immediacy not the future.

I believe every snap Slovis gets in practice this year pays a dividend harvested after his red-shit year this year.

I am also thinking you and others here are becoming illogically picky about Helton's management.

    Let up.

For all the reasons mentioned in the OP, Daniels should not have been the starting QB last year. To use him over Sears made no sense. Sears was the obvious choice. Being fresh out of HS, Daniels was far from ready to QB a team at the college level. . That was a coaching blunder of first magnitude. Helton was obviously suffering from the delusion that he could pull a little magic trick like he did with Sam. At that point I knew for certain CCH would never cut it as FBHC at USC. I said it last year and I'm saying it again.

I'm starting from the premise that CPC and Norm Chow knew what they were doing...and they worried more about the starter getting reps than the 4th string guy. They figured the guy that plays every snap in games is more important than the guy that holds the clipboard. You have more confidence in the starter-doesn't-need-the-work idea. We disagree. Every snap the 4th guy gets is one JT doesn't. You remember JT--the guy everyone says needs more experience?

    We'll agree to disagree.

My understanding is that they're running so many plays in practice, the QBs are actually all getting close to starter reps . Dead arm is a problem early in camp, sharing reps should help with that.

Yes. I said the same thing on another board
Make a decision, even if it turns out to be wrong
I’m all for having a quick hook if JT is named the starter and then stumbles, but damn it, he deserves to at least have a chance to succeed by getting the majority of the snaps going forward.
