At least FSU has an AD and Admin with a pulse that give a damn about their football program.

Changing coaches every 2-3 years has not really been working out so well for them lately. Though I guess you can't blame chasing Jimbo out on the current admin

I don't think hiring the Memphis coach is going to get FSU in the the playoffs. Let's check back in 2-3 years.

The consensus appears to be a very good hire amongst the cfb analysts. How many would take Norvell coming off a 12-1 conference chip over Clay? Would SC have beaten Memphis this year? But, didn't SC go from Kiffin to Sarkisian to Interim Coach O (who didn't fit the SC country club look) to Clay rather quickly? The fact FSU hasn't stubbornly stayed with a loser, can't blame them for that.

Jimbo was there for like 8 years and he didn’t get fired. Before that Bowden was there for decades. Taggart is the only one that’s had a short stint lately so I don’t even understand this argument.

Would have loved that guy here. My father in law lives in Memphis and has been telling me about him for a few years. Great hire on paper.

Norvell is a younger better Todd Graham. Graham took Norvell with him to 3 different schools (Tulsa to Pitt to ASU). I hope Norvell sends Graham a than you card. I guess Todd knew the boy could coach.

Interesting note Norvell as ASU OC was 2-2 vs USC and his O averaged 32.75 points a game vs the Trojans. He was the OC when ASU put up 62 and Lane got fired. However that was vs Clancy's D. Take that game away and Norvell's offense averaged 23 points a game in 3 games (1 vs a Monte D and 2 facing a Wilcox D).

I also forgot when Norvell went to Memphis in 2016 he also took the ASU DC with him Chris Ball. No wonder ASU sucked in 2016 and Graham got fired.

    Huh?
Fisher was there for 8 seasons. And left on his own.
Bowden was there for 34 and retired on his own.
Taggart is the only coach in 40+ years to be fired.....and he absolutely should have been. He’s terrible.

I suspect that's really an indictment of Clancy rather than Norvell

You're right. I was thinking Jimbo was not there that long. I guess I remember him winning with Jameson and then having a couple of bad seasons afterward and things souring to the point that he wanted to get out. I should have checked the facts before posting that.

Interestingly though there is another correlation with our ongoing discussion if you look at the Texas A&M side of that equation. They believed going out and getting a proven top caliber coach would automatically launch them into the national championship picture. They were 7-5 this year.

Norvell (formerly at ASU) has revived Memphis. Put them back on the map. Maybe we should have gone after him.

FSU hires young, up-and-coming HCs. They are still searching for the next Bobby Bowden -- someone who comes in young, wins a lot, and retires after 30+ years as HC.

How’s stubbornly sticking with our coach working for us?

If Urb is not to be hired (which is total horseshit), maybe Coach Harrell is our diamond in youth.
Like Cristobal in O, Day in ohio, Riley in Okla, Lake in Wash.

Dream on. Harrell is a pretty good Texas Tech type air raid coach cur from the same cloth as Mike Leach. When Mike Leach wins an NC, Harrell will be next.

To be fair to Jimbo... he is in the toughest conference in college football. I am not talking just the SEC, but the side that includes Bama, L$U, Aburn, Ole Miss and Miss St. I think 3 of those teams are in the top 10. They've also played Clemson the last couple yrs.

Pretty sure USC would have the exact same 5 losses if we had their schedule. Possibly a 6th.

I don't think Harrell is the answer. Riley, Day, and Lake inherited their situations from great coaches, Cristobal has connections in the game via playing at Miami and coaching with Saban. What does Harrell have? Clay Helton is the best guy on his resume from a coaching standpoint. Yikes!

Yup. I think A&M made a mistake moving to the SEC. With Jimbo now, they very well might have a better chance getting to the playoffs through the Big 12
