If JT does in fact come in early next year, it's because Darnold has told Clay he is coming back for next season. JT will red shirt and use that year to study under Sam, get to understand the playbook and hit the weight room. Then he starts the following season.

That would be best case scenario.

My instinct would be the opposite - that JT would come early only if Sam is leaving, because he can come in and compete for the starting job right away. But I'd love to be wrong.

I don’t believe he will enroll in the spring semester if he can reclassify. Then no matter what Sam decides to do, I think he will redshirt. We need to decide who the starting QB is by fall practice. Unless he shows he is clearly the better QB during fall practice in limited reps, I cannot see him start as a true freshman in 2018.

I was told this morning that, if it can happen, it would happen for JT to be here in the fall.

If JT do come in as an 18', do we recruit anyone for 19?

With Sears, Fink, and Daniels.....I would not think it that important for 2019.

2020 has Uiagalelei and Bryce Young....studs.

Pretty much this. If we get Daniels AND neither Fink or Sears transfers then we don’t need to take a QB in 2019. 2020 is a must with one of those two listed above.

That's the reason JD Booty came a year early. Didn't quite work out that way.

I don't think I've ever heard of this happening before.

If Helton can pull this off, that's an unheard0f move. Obviously JT sees an opportunity in front of him. I wonder if it's also a statement of what our coaching staff thinks about Sears and Fink. After having them in the system, they know exactly what kind of players those guys are. If they are encouraging JT to finish his high school career and get to SC a year early, they are saying something about the guys already in the program.

My thought is that this is just JT and his family making the move. CCH needs to keep his hands off of it but most likely is aware of the feasibility and potential of JT meeting the NCAA Scholarship Clearinghouse eligibility requirements in a timely manner. link: https://www.athleticscholarships.net/ncaa-eligibility.htm
