So no posts about how important it is to spend that last year in school, enjoy the HS experience, get more training...?

There is enough game film on him. His stock won't get higher and he could risk injuries.

But what you said is true for Sam.

I'm actually a bit confused about that. How is leaving HS a year early a good thing?

I guess that pretty much guarantees a red shirt year.

I think someone who leaves HS a year early probably won't stay in college for 5 years, so redshirting may be a waste. But then again JD Booty left HS a year early and did stay at SC for 5 years.

There is no way he reclassified without knowing Darnold is leaving, and from what I heard SC really helped push this process through NCAA for approval with a sense of urgency. 99% sure JT is starting for USC next year as Darnold will enter the draft. He couldn't not officially reclassify before the Dec 20th signing day, but will sign in February.

JT will get one more shot to play with Amon-ra at the all star football game in San Antonio in a couple weeks. I would not be surprised if Amon-ra commits to USC that day.

Why not? If Sam stays, JT redshirts, but gets reps with the team and is in a better position to compete for the starting spot in 2019. If Sam leaves, then JT shows up in August, and has to try to win the starting spot in a few weeks, competing against a couple of guys with time in the system.

Wrong. Sam has not made a decision nor given the NFL much thought . . . yet

I'm sure he's thought about the NFL. He's probably not made up his mind though.

People do need to remember that (if Darnold leaves) JT would still need to beat out our other QB’s for the starting job. This will not be an easy task, especially for a true freshman, regardless of how good JT may look right now in HS.

I was being sarcastic. Of course it's a good thing. Why waste another year being a man playing among boys when he can move his career along?

Daniels has said he has no idea one way or the other.

Fink and Sears might have something to say about that. They aren't exactly chopped liver, you know, and they know the system.

I don't know. There is no way he would be the starter next year even if Darnold is not there. He'll need at least a year of development.

I could see USC supporting JT's reclassification even if they knew Sam was staying - why not get JT into the fold as quickly as possible from both his standpoint and from USC's standpoint?

Don't think that JT would be guaranteed the starter even if Sam leaves - sure, with Sam HCCH and staff might have learned a lesson from Sam's case about taking the best guy even if there is an incumbent in place, but as we have seen Sam is a pretty special case.

Nice to have JT coming aboard for Fall 2018 camp but jumping to any conclusions about Sam and/or JT at this point going forward seems to be pure conjecture (which of course is certainly allowed for a chat group like this) but which at least should be recognized as being a reach of sorts.
