IMHO Sunday: No Alabama and a schedule redo would be a godsend to keep the momentum going

EXACTLY. Yeah theyll lose but how pathetic that we are on here hoping they don't have to play the toughest game on the schedule. That not how to change the culture.

I would like us to play Alabama solely to accelerate the demise of Mr. Helton. But Helton would most likely blame the loss on not having enough time to prepare. And Bohn would predictably give him a pass.
This game would magnify the differences between the two teams, the most glaring being physicality. And with a finesse offense, we will not close the gap anytime soon. We have very little to gain. In fact, it's more likely we get Daniels or Slovis seriously hurt.

Gomer has never prepared a team to compete on day 1. The only reason to duck AL is to give Helton another shot. Screw that...he’s either competent or not. AL is among the best and we’ll see how close we really are to those at the top. Anyone anytime anywhere...everything else is pussification.

When did we change our motto from “fight on” to “let’s lower the bar to look good”? When did we start wanting to run from a challenge? This is so wrong on so many levels.

Greg, I’m frankly embarrassed for you right now. You’re better than this.

How often does the team with the best QB win in college football? I would say the great, great majority of the time. USC will have the best QB in every single one of their games this season. I think they could score 40 on Alabama. I don't know what the defense will do.

What's Bama's APR? Could that be the proxy we use instead of playing them?

I'm not opposed to skipping 'Bama. The game will do nothing for this USC team...even if they win and still don't finish out in the pac 12. Pac 12 is all thats important at this phase. Its not gonna hurt Alabama either. In fact, skipping Alabama is kinda like Alabama skipping that late season competitive game every year. Hasn't hurt them one bit.

I guarantee there is not one kid on our roster who favors canceling this game. Don't they count here?

I don’t think we have a chance.....but I don’t want it canceled for that reason.

I've got mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, I really, really, REALLY dislike the thought of USC "ducking" Alabama, just because it is likely to be as one sided as the First Gulf War. I hate boxers who duck tough opponents, and I dislike the SEC for consistently scheduling cream-puff OOC opponents that they routinely beat up by scores of 63-7. That USC would deliberately dodge (if helped by the circumstance of CV) any opponent is anathema to the spirit and tradition of our program.

On the other hand, I do see the wisdom in "discretion is the better part of valor" when our team and program is in a precarious, fragile state, with some potentially great positive things going in its favor (recruiting, the renewed energy the new assistant coaches are bringing) and where an embarrassing loss and potential injury to our starting QB, who is easily the linchpin of this entire season, could derail the whole thing.

Either way, we need Alabama as a tune up for New Mexico.
