We clearly need a new OC. People talk about not being able to get good assistants and coordinators if the coach is on the hot seat. What about bringing Mike Riley to help run the offense, he's Head Coach of the San Antonio Commanders of some new Spring Pro League. I know this will not satisfy most, I just wanted to put his name out there as a good addition and someone we could likely get that would add a good offensive mind, and stability to the program if Clay stays.

Im good with a Mike Riley as (OC)
    1. He's a good recruiter.
    2. Has USC connections
    3. Knows the Pac 12
    4. Overachiver as a coach.

**I'm not sure he made the right assistant picks at Nebraska and that sealed his fate. FYI they are still struggling without him and OSU has not been the same since he parted ways.

**If you can get Riley and keep T Martin as position coach that would be a nice 1-2 recruiting punch.

You have to think recruiting when you hire coaches too. Clancy is a recruiting stick in the mud you can't have that.

With Clay at head coach and Mike Riley at OC, we are sure to win at least two games next season!

    FFF!!!

What we need is a completely new offense. I am fine with Helton staying on if he brings in a really good OC and let's that person install their own offense and call the plays.

Bring in a new QB coach.

AND, and this is a HUGE and...... practice like you are a damn college football team and stop acting like pop warner.

It is that last part that I don't think is going to change.
He is either lazy or clueless.

    This is freakin' hilarious.

The game past Mike Riley by a decade ago. He's four games under .500 since 2009.

He managed to do something not even Bill Callahan could pull off: turn Nebraska into a losing program.

Oregon State was falling apart before Nebraska ran in to give him a golden parachute. Then he left that program in shambles as well.

Having Clay has head coach is enough of a death knell on its own. But now you want to add a washed-up Mike Riley to the mix??? My Lord.

It doesn't matter what the rest of this sentence reads. Because if you are fine with Clay as head coach under any circumstances .... even if he brought on Mike Martz to coach the offense and Marvin Lewis to run the defense .... then you are okay with mediocrity. Because that's what Clay embodies as a head coach: mediocrity (at best).

I like Mike Riley a lot. If they decided to keep Helton they may be the only type of OC hire you could make. One that a guy would take knowing it's a 1 year job most likely ending as interim head coach

David Yost of Utah State is the guy to bring in as an OC

Exactly. I don't want to contemplate the rest of the sentence "If Clay stays..." I feel like I'm as big of a sunshine pumper as there is. I supported Kiffin all the way up to the game that got him fired (I still cheer for FAU). But I don't even want to think about another season with Helton.

Don’t see clay hiring any assistant coaches that have been head coaches too easy to say fire clay, promote Mike Riley.

I suspect he would have no choice but to get a new OC. Tee probably leaves after the playcalling demotion. But Helton is more likely to promote Ellis or Drevno than to hire a well known OC. I am surprised no one has mentioned Norm Chow yet as he has many fans here.

I put a" likes this" on hiring Riley as OC.
Hiring anyone as OC other HC/OC...."I can do that too" Helton, would draw a "likes this" from me anyday.

    Can Drevino call plays?

Isn't going with guys with "USC connections" how we got in this mess in the first place?

Were not talking about him as a head coach. I would be strongly opposed to that. Were talking about a guy with expierience that can look clay in the eyes and say. That $!#t is not going to work. Right now all he has are yes men around him. Except for Clancy and maybe Baxter.

You also have to consider the OP's opinion he's obatainable. None of the fantasy OC's on everyone's wish list are coming to work along side a lame duck coach.

FYI. I'm strongly opposed to Helton returning at all. I've lit this site up with meme's clowning Clay for weeks. So were in agreement on that.

If Clay comes back -- excuse me, I just threw up in my mouth a little -- I want Clay to be OC. I don't want there to be any doubt who is at fault when the offense inevitably plays like garbage.

Tee had no business being an OC. I think Clay probably knew that, but the truth is he wasn't really the OC anyway. Clay was. This was his offense, his offensive staff, his everything. Tee was just here to recruit, and giving him the title of OC kept him around. And Tee took heat that rightly belonged to Clay.

No, no more mid-season demotions where Clay gets to pretend that past failures are somebody else's fault. All Clay, all the time; that's my vote. (Do I get one?)

Tommy T. 100% spot on. A Mike Riley might be seen as a threat to him. Maybe he goes back to that WKU Honey Hole.
