Hot seat- Helton & Herman

I think Herman's seat is hotter if only because he's getting paid more, and his contract is up sooner.

Helton's contract until 2023 means that a buyout would be costly. Bohn has assembled a great staff under him, who have worked wonders on the recruiting trail this past off-season. All Helton has to do is not mess up and not meddle too much to keep his job.

We all know Helton is a subpar coach, but if USC wins 10+ games this year, he will certainly be coach in 2021. But then he'll have to face 2021 without Harrell, who will get a gig in the NFL, or at some other school.

 

The problem is that the success will be likely be a trick bag, like 2016-17. We won because we lucked into a generational talent at QB, not because we had solid coaching.

 

Helton is not on any hot seat. Given the very weak schedule and strong incoming class, he can sleepwalk to 9-3, maybe get to 10-2, win the Pac 12 and make the Rose Bowl. Heck--Folt will probably give him a 5 year extension.

 

Argh! Truly, the stuff of nightmares.

 

How about Folt keeps him till he retires, Clay said wanted to do when 60.

Has anything this admin has done in the past year suggest that it would fight to have Urban Meyer as head coach?! UM has some baggage and I just don’t see this admin elevating football over political correctness. There are at least 127 identity groups and one will find fault with UM, certainly.

 

don’t even say that. Urban going to ND is the nightmare scenario. Not only we don’t get him but he ends up with a hated rival and kicks our ass.

I know Ohio State and ND were his dream jobs but I am hoping the ND ship has sailed for him as he declined their offer once and took the Florida job instead.

 

I think weather is a factor at this point; especially for his wife. Maybe ugly gets him.

 

While things seem to be looking up, the odds are that the QB will get hurt sometime during the season, missing games, and causing the wheels to come off. I expect 7-8 wins. Just above the fire zone.
