Moving to Texas to be their OC would not be a move "up". Harrel may continue to hold out for a HC position, but it's looking improbable he'll get one.

Assuming his prospects are limited to OC this coming year, which situation would be an actual "improvement"? His existing chemistry at SC with players he knows and confidence in Slovis, or getting closer to home but in a volatile situation w/ Herman?

If the reported $6M he'd be getting at TX is true, pretty sure that's more than anything SC would pay (more than Helton makes pretty sure), then $ would be a factor as well.

As young as Harrel is, I'd think he'd care about his path to what he ultimately wants (a HC position), than jumping for $ to a program that just might be more desparate than SC (TX).

It’s a lateral unless Herman gives him the Asst HC title as well.

Which means about as much as the Assistant "to the" HC title... It's a bullshit consolation title that basically means "We're paying you a bunch and really want you, but you're not getting a HC position".

Could be wrong, but don't think Asst HC's truly run teams admininstratively or do anything that would make them more qualified to be a HC than any other assistant?

It was quite a bit larger than a minority. The "NeverHelton" crowd most definitely wanted Herman...especially after UT gave us all we could handle in the Coliseum...and then last year after he crushed Helton.

I disagree..I think it’s about mentoring, and preparing an asst for the next level. Some are more ready than others

Hold on Herman is not quite the Scub you are trying to make him out to be.

Texas was 10-4 #9 last year

    He Finished 7-5 in 2019

Look at the losses. More importantly look at the scores.

    Loss #1 Loss to #1 LSU 13-0
Score 38-45 (Lost by 7 pts)

    Loss #2 to #4 Oklahoma
Score 27-34 (lost by 7 pts)

Loss #3 Loss to TCU 5-7
Score 27-37 (Lost by 10) This was a let down but TCU can be sneaky good at times.

Loss #4 Loss to Iowa State 7-5
Score 21-23 (Lost by 2 pts's) to his equal Matt Campbell

    Loss #5 Loss to Baylor #7 11-2
Score 10-24 (lost by 14 pts)

    Summary:

Texas has played two of the top #4 teams and lost by a touchdown in each game.
They lost to 3 teams total in the top 10 with a combined record of 36-3

    #1 LSU 13-0
    #4 Oklahoma 12-1
    #7 Baylor 11-2

Another loss was to Matt Campbell of Iowa State who many people see as his equal.

On top of this he beat the up and comer Chris Kleiman of Kansas State (8-4)

Bottom line is Texas can play with the big boys Now. They are making changes to take the next step and winning these games. They are not rebuilding.

Of course it's a step up--from working for a dolt that's likely to be fired in the next year or two...to a place that values FB, pays better and is his home state?

That would be a bad decision. A new HC would need to be able to choose his OC.

Why don’t these people make up their minds already and quit holding SC hostage for more cash.

Don't be frustrated with them, imo, be frustrated with Folt and Bohn who put them in this negotiating position of power because of their retaining a very unpopular coach. Harrell holds all the cards, and he knows it.

Proof that Bohn is a hack.

    1. He should have said from day 1 that Helton was coming back. (or was he too busy not taking to anyone). This would have given them 11 more days to recruit without the Helton distraction.

    2. He should have locked up Graham Harrell before he decided to keep Helton.

    3. He should have locked up a New DC 2 weeks ago so they can go and recruit. Jinx or Nansen could take over the DC duties for the bowl game. The bowl means nothing. The recruiting class does. Do you want Clancy out recruiting If you plan on replacing him?

    4. He should not allow Graham Harrell to hold them hostage. His offer should come with a deadline. Time for USC to act like an ELITE PROGRAM again. If he agreed to stay announce it now. Let's move on.

    5. They should put out feelers to other OC's now just incase. Contact the guy from Baylor Texas Tech, North Texas, WSU.

Everything seems so slow and fly by the seat of your pants. Time to get organized.

USC should offer Harrell a significant raise.
But as C&G said there should be a reasonable time limit
Don’t hold USC hostage to get a better job
If Harrell is going let him go, but don’t loose out on the other hot OCs.
    They are going fast
Hope Bohn is smart enough to realize this

I'm not convinced Bohn is smart enough to spell his last name. He does talk a good game. I'll bet he knows how to spell platitudes.

Seriously, I wonder if he resigned tonight if anyone would be upset besides Folt, whose bidding he apparently does.

I wanted Herman and would still take him over Clay. Speculation of course, but I would venture to say he would have had at least two more wins, the P-12 South, plus who knows how much more...
