So you stated you have an update, then link to a site you have to pay to see anything. With no actual update. Jackass

Monday, 1 pm - Former Texas offensive assistant coach Jeff Traylor, who spent the past two years on Chad Morris' staff at Arkansas, has been named the next head coach at UTSA. Texas offensive coordinator candidate Graham Harrell interviewed with UTSA in Dallas on Dec. 2.

Monday, 12 pm - As we head into Week 2 of Tom Herman’s search for two new coordinators and two receivers coaches, here’s where things stand …

Former Rutgers coach Chris Ash, the co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State on the Buckeyes’ 2014 national title team with Herman, is a leading candidate (if not THE leading candidate) to replace Todd Orlando.

Herman and Ash have talked about the possibility of Ash becoming Texas’ next defensive coordinator (although Ash hasn’t been in Austin to formally interview and wouldn’t need to because he and Herman are so close, sources said).

Ash, however, is interested in seeing if current Ohio State defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley ends up getting the Boston College head-coaching job, sources said. If so, Ash might be in the mix to return to Ohio State, sources said.

Indications are the Boston College coaching search could wrap up this week.

We’ve reported from the beginning that Texas strength coach Yancy McKnight is doing Herman’s advance work - contacting candidates and gauging their interest - and that McKnight contacted Todd Graham as a defensive coordinator candidate.

Graham, a former head coach at Rice, Tulsa and Arizona State, hired McKnight at Rice in 2006. Sources said Graham has interviewed for the vacant New Mexico head-coaching job.

We’ve also heard former Missouri coach Barry Odom as a possible DC candidate, but Odom is also in the mix for other opportunities.

Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley, a Broyles Award finalist this year whom Texas will face in the Alamo Bowl, has also been a name of interest. But sources have indicated Scalley, a devout Mormon who teaches the Latter-day Saints program to Utah football players in addition to serving as DC, is very comfortable at Utah.

The Week 1 main target of Herman’s offensive coordinator search - USC’s Graham Harrell - met with Herman last Wednesday in Houston, according to sources, and the two talked about the possibility of Harrell joining the Texas staff, sources said.

Sources indicated financial parameters of the job (three years guaranteed at roughly $6 million) were discussed and even the possibility of UT’s new offensive coordinator installing his offense during bowl practices.

But Harrell, who interviewed for the UTSA head-coaching job in Dallas last Monday, sources told Horns247, has returned to Los Angeles and continues to recruit for USC, where it’s been announced Clay Helton will remain the coach.

Sources said Harrell has a close relationship with Helton and has enjoyed the autonomy Helton afforded him in their first season together.

Sources said the reason nothing has been officially announced about Harrell’s future because he’s waiting to see if any other head-coaching job opportunities might come open that he would interview for. (Chip Brown)

it sounds like USC is willing to give Harrell a contract that guarantees his OC spot even if Helton is let go, but Texas is not (Herman's seat will be almost as hot as Clay's next season). could be the difference maker

I’m shocked Herman has not experienced more success at Tex@ss. I would have thought they would be a CFP contender by now.

There's about to be a mass exodus over there. I think he has a problem connecting with the primadonna 5 stars.

IMHO Harrell is gone, big obstacle for stoops and meyer was usc wouldn’t pay the money to hire great assistant coaches, doubtful they will pay for Harrell

Apparently, they paid up. Although, that doesn't mean he's staying.

Everyone thought he would after the past two seasons. Just like Clay, he hit the third year wall and is on the downturn. And everyone on this board wanted Herman badly...even though Helton had just gone 10-2 and won the Rose Bowl.

I still contend that USC's offense will put up better numbers next year than any other opportunity that GH is looking at. That way, if he's off looking for another job next year he'll be able to land a better/more lucrative position. It just makes sense to sacrifice a year of higher income, in order to reach a higher plateau.

UTSA and UNLV will not make getting a head coaching position in a Power 5 conference any easier than staying at USC. Same with UT, he has better athletes here and it look about 1/2 the season for Slovis to really come on, so why would he go through that again next year, when he can be off and rolling here next season?

You almost never keep a top assistance long-term. Just ask Nick Saban about that...or CPC, for that matter. Every good asst wants to move up.

This doesn't make sense, and actually frightens me if true.

If Helton is canned after next season, a new head coach with any level of previous success will want to bring in his own staff. No high-end coach would be willing to take a job with an assistant forced on to him by the athletic department.

It appears as if both spots Harrell interviewed for a HC spot have been filled by someone else.
