    As the article mentions, Bryant had been trying to integrate Alabama's team for years, and did in fact have a black player on the roster in 1970, but it wasn't until USC knocked the snot out of them that the floodgates opened.

    I think what also really rankled Alabama fans, besides the all-black backfield of Jones, Cunningham, and Clarence Davis running over, through, and around the Bama defense, was that Davis was an Alabama native, having grown up in Birmingham.
