USC will move Tuesday's Spring Ball opener to Wednesday, due to inclement weather.

USC will now open on Wednesday, March 11, still at 3:40 pm. Thursday and Saturday practices remain unchanged.

To be fair though, Alabama has indoor practice facilities.

Maybe they use a different meteorologist or maybe even a swami, but my forecast says there's a chance of rain every day this week.

Most likely due to the forecast for severe thunderstorms throughout the southland on Tuesday. And yes, even Alabama would shut down practice for nearby thunderstorms. In fact, all football games would shut down due to thunderstorms nearby, so what is the big deal postponing one day to avoid an all-out cancellation? Seems reasonable to preserve the day and move everything over a day instead of cancelling after practice started and losing the day altogether.

Well anything’s possible but I can’t recall an event in So Cal being cancelled because of thunderstorms. Other places for sure, just not here. Good trivia question I would think.

Sounds like an opportunity to practice situational football like playing in inclement weather in Washington or Oregon is not that important.

Well, I have had flights cancelled. Lightning was hitting runway at LAX.
I have been at several sporting events that were postponed or suspended because of lightning.

Cancelled all together is probably not what the original posters meant.

No one is playing in Washington or Oregon in the lightning.
What exact situational practice is that?

It is going to be raining later in the week, sans lighting.

I am one of the hardest critics on this board of this current program, but good god, even I have ZERO problem with moving the practice back a day.

The big storm that's coming in picked up a big band of tropical thunderstorms that were soutwest of Hawaii and are throwing them into socal/baja.

It’s the first day of practice people. Why would you practice in heavy rain the first practice of spring? The defense will be learning a new system, new offensive players will be learning the offense. Heavy rain would be an inconvenience. Why practice in that when they can move practice to a dry day? some of you guys are good for comic relief....

For what’s its worth, doesn’t really bother me that it’s pushed back a day, just thought it was funny after all the toughness talk. Safety is important, and they shouldn’t be out on the field if there is a thunderstorm.

Lighten up guys. Geeesh! Don't tell me when you guys played in high school or college you did not practice in the rain? After all the hot hell week summer practices we prayed for rain. Meteorologists over-hype the weather in SoCal like nowhere else.
