Dec. 18, Urban Meyer, and the recruiting salvage operation PickSicx Junior Member Joined: Aug 24, 2017 Messages: 3,062 Likes Received: 5,124 Dec 1, 2019 #1 Helton will be history as of tomorrow. Clear out your locker, thank you for your service, and no, you don't get to keep the cool cell phone and company car—leave the keys with the secretary. Urban will be announced our new Head Coach by Thursday Dec. 5th or Friday, Dec. 6th at the latest. Perhaps a day or two earlier. That will leave him two weeks to get in contact with the recruits that are still out there waiting to make their decision. Best case scenario for our recruiting class: 1. Meyer IMMEDIATELY gets on the phone and begins contacting the top 3 dozen uncommitted kids on our recruiting board. His primary duty is to make sure that they don't commit to anyone else on Dec. 18. He tells them, "I understand if you're not ready to make a commitment to USC at this time, but please don't say yes to Oregon or Washington until you give us a chance to share with you in detail how we will use you in our offense/defense." The goal: buy time. 2. For those who have already given a verbal commitment to another school, again, the same scenario: "You don't have to sign during the early signing period. What's the rush? I will promise you that you'll have a scholarship offer at the end of the recruiting period—this will not be like musical chairs where you'll be left standing without a place to go." Would he be able to flip any of them? Heck -- even if he only gets one out of 10 to flip, that's still something. 3. Should he get a couple of high-profile kids to flip or to suddenly announce that USC is clearly in the running in the next week or so, he will play up that momentum for all it's worth, getting them to talk with one another and to dream about what it would be like to play at USC together. The goal is buzz, rumors, and chaos. You want Chris Peterson and Mario Christobal to be crapping themselves. These next two weeks will be absolutely critical. Every decent recruit in California is closely watching this situation, as is their parents. Ride Fly, AJSCFAN, SCBIGTIME and 12 others like this.
