Greg Katz's article was written before our sure Jc recruit Datona Jackson switched to the uglies because we pulled his scholarship? If true, why would we do that and have him play for our enemy? Who's lame idea was that? We better be getting a 5star to replace him. What a fiasco tomorrow will be!

When you start going the JC route, you are desperate. Let the chipster have him. He's rebuilding.

But UCLA still let him in?
Bruins must have sold their soul to land Chip.

Hi einibobo, Yes, I wrote the article about Daytona Jackson coming before these latest rumors of an unexpected switch to UCLA. There is, obviously, something going on, but I wouldn't jump to the immediate conclusions that it's either grades or some trash talk about the Trojans' coaching staff that came to light. Right now, we'll have to wait until the fax machines start rolling. Once again, never take anything for granted when it comes to recruiting because nothing counts until the faxes are official. That's why it doesn't add up that it's due to grades. Must be something else going on.

It makes since... if SC has a solid pledge from a very talented kid out of high school, to go with this kid, versus a JC kid who would only have 2 yrs to play.

This is what I figure the situation has produced. I read an article where Jackson said SC was a dream school so I don't think he pulled out. Also, if grades are a problem, getting into UCLA should also be a problem, unless they have loosened the strings for athletics sakes. Don't know the answer about that and we may never really know what happened if Jackson signs with the Powder Puffs.

Not necessarily grades per se. In rare situations, JC credits don't line up with university requirements and the counselors at the JC don't catch it in time. This is a peculiarity at USC that does not seem to affect transfers to state schools. This has happened in the past with a handful of our JC recruits. You expect the player to come, the player expects to come, and all of a sudden, admissions tells the coach that none of the classes count. Not saying that is what happened here but it has happened in the past.

We need to let this play out, before jumping to conclusions of why. From what it looks like, it was USC going in a different direction, for reasons unknown to us at this time. I would rather see that, rather than have a highly sought recruit flip from us to them.

Kid looks athletic on tape. Wonder if he can replace Gustin at the Predator spot.

    I got this.

Yes, a guy with two working healthy legs and feet can replace Gustin. He should be able to stand on the sideline as well or better without the aid of crutches. This is a win all around.

Per SI, Helton pulled the offer Tuesday because Jackson took a recruiting visit to Oregon last Friday. Helton told Jackson that was the reason.

I gotta say, if that's why, then Helton has really sold something to the dude downstairs. I would like to think Jackson wasn't high on their to get board to begin with and that was the excuse to get out, and not because of the visit itself. Maybe he was high on a coach that got fired and not Helton's. Either way, pulling an offer a day before signing day is SEC-like. The new Helton might just be OK after all, depending on how you like your head coach to act.

I think if Helton asked the players to quiet down they only would have gotten louder. He seems to command that kind of respect. Clay would have had to put his mad hat on and break out the ice cream to get them to comply.
