My theory is that Bohn is making these hires and already has a "gentlemen's agreement" with a coach-in-waiting, to come aboard after next season. This yet to be named coach is probably suggesting/ approving the new hires and they were all made aware of this arrangement for job security purposes. Why else would these guys leave steady jobs to be one-and-done with Clay?

Prob because they all have multi year contracts, regardless if they stay or are released if the HC is changed.

I’ve been pondering this as a possibility in one form or another for awhile now and I hope you are right, but I’m not so sure.

There is very much the possibility that the new assistants don’t see Clay as being “one and done”, that they see USC as a high level destination, and that their contracts are guaranteed.

If these coaches can improve on the performance of the coaches they are replacing, which may seem easy to them, they will have multiple job offers at the end of the season, like Graham Harrell.

They saved money hanging onto Helton....and also dumping the overpaid Pendergast and Baxter.

A top HC would've cost $5.5-8M....and probably if Bohn had his way, $9M for Meyer.

I seriously doubt that this is the case. I also believe that Clay is very much involved with the hires; Bohn may be opening some doors, but it is clear that Clay is the front man once discussions start. (Listen to the podcast by DR a few weeks back where he referenced a discussion he had with Kris Richard). It is also clear to me that Clay is not one-and-done unless we have a spectacularly bad year, which may happen, but with these recent hires, SC will probably do okay.

AD made Clay fire Baxter & Clancy. Even Lynn made him fire Callaway & Tee. Clay would have kept them .

Gotta love the conspiracy theories. The sooner you get comfortable with the fact that Gomer is here thru his contract the better you’ll be.

Find a proper 'Air Raid' O-line coach, & bring in Claiborne as a G.A., and the process is complete.

Maybe. But IMHO, were it not for Bohn's "encouragement", Clay would not have hired so many alpha coaches, who don't believe in playing 'soft'.

This. Guaranteeing contracts for key assistants is probably no more expensive than paying for a year of Clay. Hence, not firing Clay last fall meant more money on the table to upgrade assistants.

The one good thing about Helton is his reasonable 3.2m salary.
If he can just not try to do too much, but just work hard where it counts
Learn to communicate instead of faking it.
Continue his plans to change the football culture. And let’s his actions speak
Concentrate on discipline and less penalties.
Teach how to tackle and have physical and competing practices.
Allow his assistants to make adjustments.
Yes it sounds not hard but Helton has to change all his habits.

This is truth. Bohn and Sosna aren’t fvcking around. I know people were writing him off because he didn’t fire Helton and hire Meyer week one, but that wasn’t going to happen. You aren’t going to fix what ails USC by hiring a 5 star coach, because when all is said and done, no 5 star coach was going to take that job under the toxic environment that Bohn inherited.
Babylon fell because it was built on sand, and Bohn understood that well before he signed on. He’s started the demo( firing Lopes, Orr and Jacobson and the coaches that needed to go) and now he’s starting to rebuild on a strong foundation.

I can’t speak on Folt, I’m ambivalent about her and understanding all the facets of her task is way above my pay grade, but if Bohn ultimately fails, it will not be due to an unwillingness to try to change the culture or make the tough decisions he clearly believes need to be made.

Someone I trust and who really knows the ins and outs of the situation believes Mike Bohn will end up being a hero to most of the Trojan Family.

My only concern is why does Tessalone still have his position? I’m not necessarily saying he needs to be fired and escorted from the building, Tim has devoted his whole life to USC, but he needs to go. Let him retire with a nice severance package and hook him up with a cushy job in the private sector, but he needs to go. Because his continued presence is concerning to anyone with eyes and ears and wants this ship turned around.
