Erik, or anyone, do you know which of these "final year" players might return for the additional year of eligibility? I didn't include Vaughns since he should get drafted.

    RB-Malepaia, Carr
    TE-Falo, Krommenhoek
    OL-Schirmer, Martin II, Jimmons,
    DL-Pili
    LB-Iosefa

Slovis is back next year for his third year. Assuming he's healthy and has a great year, I hope he goes and gets rich after that.

So, if players get another year of eligibility, is the total # of scholarship players allowed on roster also bumped up? I imagine it has to be. New recruits sign before you know who is going to stick around for another year.

I don't think so, but the team also doesn't know who will choose to go pro early (AVT, Hufanga?, ARSB?, Marlon T?)

    Great question:

Ask yourself do you see any of the above getting drafted?

I see one. Vavae Malepeai maybe late rounds or UDFA. He's a smart, tough runner someone may use him like a FB.

Carr was a 5 star RB
Josh Falo was a 4 star TE

Anyone have any thoughts? Do these two get drafted?

If that is true, then this is not a very well thought out plan.
You are giving this years seniors relief because of Covid but you are punishing this years incoming freshman and/or other players who are on scholarship that are either not going to get to go to college or going to get cut and have to leave school.

Not sure how that sounds like a good plan.

Sad to say, but I don't think any outside of Vavae would be drafted. Signed to a look, maybe.

I think it is pretty much a lock that these 4 will be moving on. Unless they feel we will be national champion contenders next year, they have nothing left to prove. Just my opinion!

This is happening in all college sports starting last year. College baseball is even worse as there was no season so eligibility was extended for an extra year. It could happen again, making players on college rosters with 6 years of eligibility.
To make it worse baseball unlike football has a smaller roster so that extra year of extended eligibility backlogs current high school seniors. Lots of high school kids affected by extended eligibility means less opportunities for 2021 and 2022 high school kids!

No but if I were an NFL manager I'd ask Falo to my camp.

I think Erik wrote elsewhere that the scholarship limit (85) will probably be raised for next year. (It would still be 85 for players who are not returning seniors).

None of them will be drafted, but that's not what's important. Do they think they will be drafted, and if not, do they think they can make it as UDFA? Will they be graduating this spring, and if so, are they sick of school? I wouldn't want to go to school at the same place (even USC) for five or six years.

No. They need to stay. I think Vavae should too. He just started to show some NFL potential recently, IMO.

I think the first two should go. I'm not sure where the people who are projecting St. Brown as a first rounder are getting their info, but he is quite a fine player who has accomplished a lot. I think Marlon T. should stay.

What happened with Falo's development? I thought he was going to be a real contributor (if not a star). Is it a staff/scheme issue? Is he just not as talented/physically gifted as I thought he was? Or does it have something to do with his work ethic?

Interesting question! I don't see the running backs coming back, unless Carr does a grad transfer to a school where he has more of a chance to showcase his talent. I think Pili will come back, he has NFL type talent but needs to show consistency. Agree that Iosefa comes back - if he can stay healthy and show his talent in the middle, it might get him a ride in the NFL. Jimmons maybe because he has shown he can play on the OL after starting on the DL. Schirmer and Martin have no NFL options, the former being very disappointing, and I can't see Falo making the NFL. Krommenhoek has shown as much as he can.

My only reservation about Slovis is that this year is really a half year and I don't think kids are ready for the NFL after 2 and a half years.
