After last year's debacle of a class, particularly along the offensive line, I wanted to look at what this year's class could have easily looked like. That said, my focus is going to be primarily on West Coast recruits with an emphasis on CA kids. Here is what a likely 25-man class would look like (note, I am using that size of a class because I think there will be more than 18 rides available and we took about 3 kids we really should not have based on talent in last year's class):

    Offense (12)

    QB (1) - 5-Star Bryce Young

WR (3) - 4-Star Gary Bryant Jr., 4-Star Traeshon Holden, 4-Star Gee Scott/Kris Hutson/LV Bunkley-Shelton/3-Star Josh Jackson (take your pick on one of the last four)

RB (2) - 4-Star Bijan Robinson, 4-Star Daniel Ngata (I'm high on Ngata, especially in the air raid style of a system we run)

    TE (1) - 4-Star Jack Yary

OL (5) - 4-Star Myles Murao, 3-Star Jonah Monheim, 3-Star Drake Metcalf, 3-Star Courtland Ford/Casey Collier/Andrew Milek/Andres Dwerk (take your pick on two of the last four - I like the class Drevno has put together, but I really wish we could've landed Murao and Metcalf, love both of their games)

    Defense (12)

DL (3) - 3-Star Tuli Tuipulotu, 3-Star Jamar Sekona, 3-Star Kobe Pepe (thin class on the West Coast for DLine and this looks like a very likely class, so credit where credit is due)

LB (4) - 5-Star Justin Flowe, 5-Star Sav'ell Smalls, 4-Star Kourt Willaims, 4-Star Damian Sellers/Jordan Banks (take your pick on one of the last two)

CB (3) - 5-Star Kelee Ringo, 5-Star Elias Ricks, 4-Star Darion Green-Warren/Ayden Hector (I don't care how many we took last year, you take these three, hands down, maybe even all four - I prefer Hector, but DGW is solid as well)

    S (2) - 4-Star Lathan Ransom, 4-Star Jordan Morant

    ST (1)

    K (1) - 3-Star Parker Lewis

This class is balanced and fairly realistic with an 11-win season (including Bowl Game win, which should be near our base-line standard at USC). The class I built comes out to 309.49 total points and would definitely be a top-3 class, which is where we should be on a year in, year out basis. I did this just to show how much talent is really going away from us.

It is so frustrating seeing the California talent going to other schools. Especially when you watch a bunch of Cali guys kick our butt wearing the Oregon uniform.

Great write up! There’s a mountain of talent that we missed on this year, guys that could have been program builders. What a shame.

After being depressed by what could have been, what do you think it will actually be? Who do you think is coming to USC?

    Glad to have you back.

Getting all those guys in the back 7 would be a tall task, we absolutely should have landed several of them. Even just Flowe and one of the others guys mentioned at LB, plus one of Ricks/Ringo, along with Ransom, DGW, and Hector would be a great haul. Other notable misses at OL this year include Tosh Baker from Arizona and Jeffrey Persi out of JSerra Catholic (I saw some TV special around Thanksgiving on top local high school recruits, and it was mentioned that Persi's parents were big SC fans, but he felt better about going to Michigan).

I would also say that last year was a debacle along the DL, even with Drake, given all the talent we missed out on.

Good to see you back BLF.

Who are those? Definitely not Slovis.

Gotta put Benton and Quinones in that group, based on returns so far.

Well that's great to wish, but if USC would have fired Helton, maybe just maybe USC could have gotten some of those players with UM or Stoops.

Based on previous comments from BLF, I am sure one of them was that Trey Davis dude who ended up transferring to wsu.

How would we have taken 25 players with only 12 scholarships available?

BLF, given that at this point we have like 11 or 12 scholarships available...and our position needs, which 11 or 12 would you have picked? Since we couldn't get them all.

True, but with normal shake out we will probably end up with 15-17 rides available by the February LOI day. Agree, 25 was not a reasonable number to list.

At this point could we sign more kids on ESD than we currently have scholarships available? I mean if we only have 11 spots on ESD, I am pretty sure we cannot sign more than 11 kids. If we free up some more spots, which will be likely, we would have to hope there are still some great targets who didn't sign LOIs on ESD. Or we are relegated to pulling kids from the transfer portal. I think we should spend more time trying to keep the kids we have. Sometimes you have to recruit them as well. It helped us this season when Fink pulled out of the portal.

I think by saying there were three wasted rides last year, BLF is implying we should have been able to take 14 of the best players available today instead of 11, and that one would hope another four with less competition for their services would wait until four more spots were cleared by the next deadline. Surely INTEGRITY could be leveraged to get less sought after players to trust this staff to hold spots for them?

What lavish talent allowed to walk out the door due to outright mismanagement and incompetence.

Greg Biggins was on with Petros earlier today & said that USC finished 2nd for Bijan Robinson, Justin Flowe, Bryce Young & Elias Ricks. Not like it matters....
