Heck, I bought a sweatshirt from the USC bookstore that said "Southern Cal" and that was in the early 90s. Only SEC people think "USC" means University of South Carolina. To fans of non-benighted regions of the country, USC means Southern California, and the Trojans who are a blue-blood program, and not some program with a minor profile like South Carolina.
