Scouting the Vandals:

Third-year head coach Paul Petrino, whose Vandal squad went 1-10 in 2014 (the program’s third straight 1-victory season), opened its 2015 campaign with a 45-28 loss at home versus Ohio. Sophomore QB Matt Linehan (36-of-48, 75.0%, 297 yds, 1 TD, 2 int in 2015, plus 9 tcb, 29 yds, 3.2 avg) returns after throwing for 2,540 yards and 11 TDs last season, but he had 18 interceptions. Senior RB Elijhaa Penny (17 tcb, 69 yds, 4.1 avg, 2 TD in 2015, plus 5 rec, 32 yds, 6.4 avg and 3 KOR, 66 yds, 22.0 avg), at 234 pounds, led the Vandals in rushing (596 yds, 12 TDs) in 2014. Junior TE Deon Watson (5 rec, 38 yds, 9.2 avg, 1 TD in 2015) is the squad’s top returning receiver (37 catches). The offensive line surrendered 41 sacks in 2014. Idaho’s defense, which gave up 462.7 total yards and 37.3 points last season, has switched to a 3-4 look in 2015. Senior LB Marc Millan (7 tac, 1 for loss in 2015) led the team in tackles and tackles for loss (102, 15.5) last year. Junior P Austin Rehkow (37.5 P avg, 2-of-2 FGs in 2015) was a 2013 All- American first team punter (second teamer in 2014) and also handles the placekicks.
