Wood Aims For Starting Role

LOS ANGELES — Quietly and rather unassumingly, junior redshirt walk-on place-kicker Alex Wood has been in friendly competition with redshirt scholarship sophomore kicker Matt Boermeester, both looking to replace departed four-year starter Andre Heidari.

All that possibly hangs in the balance of this kicking battle is the Trojans’ season, considering a schedule that figures to be fraught with game-changing field goal opportunities that could mean anything from a Pac-12 South Division title to a College Football Playoff invitation.
