The quarterback is selected, and running backs are on the clock.
We’re off and running in the naming of the official WeAreSC All-Time USC Team, as Matt Leinart handily won the quarterback poll (poll is located on the right sidebar of WeAreSC) and is established as the squad’s signal caller.
It’s tough to argue with the choice of Leinart, as one of USC’s Heisman Trophy winners and center of one of the greatest runs in college football history, helping the Trojans to a 34-game winning streak and back-to-back national championships. In his career, Leinart completed 64.8% of his passes for 10,693 yards and 99 touchdowns.
Quarterback is a loaded position when it comes to picking the All-Time team, as fellow Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer received a good number of votes. There are also some historically significant figures in Cotton Warburton, Morley Drury, and Orv Mohler, and some fan favorites, in Rodney Peete, Sam Darnold, and Paul McDonald.
Now, the poll shifts to running back, which likely registers as one of the most difficult selections for this team. Only two running backs from Tailback U will be named from a group that features Heisman Trophy winners in Marcus Allen, Reggie Bush, Mike Garrett, Charles White, and O.J. Simpson, as well as Ricky Bell, LenDale White, Jon Arnett, and Anthony Davis.
Good luck finding a way to narrow down that list to just the two most deserving tailbacks.
