SCOUTING WASHINGTON: Washington, which is coming off a bye after a 30-24 home loss to California on Sept. 26, is guided by second-year head coach Chris Petersen, who succeeded current USC head coach Steve Sarkisian in Seattle. UW also lost its opener, 16-13 at Boise State, Petersen’s previous employer. As many as a dozen underclassmen start for Washington. True freshman QB Jake Browning (76-of-117, 65.0%, 996 yds, 5 TD, 4 int in 2015) has assumed control of the Husky offense. He is just the second UW true freshman to start at QB, joining current USC assistant Marques Tuiasosopo, who did so in 1997. Another true freshman, TB Myles Gaskin (39 tcb, 209 yds, 5.4 avg, 3 TD in 2015), leads the team in rushing, followed by junior TB Dwayne Washington (27 tcb, 138 yds, 5.1 avg, 3 TD in 2015, plus 17 rec, 223 yds, 13.1 avg, 2 TD and 2 KOR, 22 yds, 11.0 avg), who is UW’s top pass catcher. Senior WR Jaydon Mickens is fifth on the school’s career receptions list (158). Washington is 17th nationally in scoring defense (15.8, first in Pac-12), 18th in rushing defense (104.5, first in Pac-12) and 19th in red zone defense (.714, second in Pac-12), and its leads the Pac-12 in total defense (321.0). Sophomore LB Azeem Victor (38 tac, 3.5 for loss in 2015) is the leading tackler for the Huskies, while other key defenders include soph LB Keishawn Bierria (28 tac, 1.5 for loss), senior LB Travis Feeney (14 tac, 3 for loss, 1 sack in 2015), who has 195 career tackles, soph S Budda Baker (6 tac, 3 dfl in 2015) and junior CB Kevin King (14 tack, 1 for loss, 3 int, 1 dfl in 2015), who is 10th nationally in interceptions (0.8, first in Pac- 12).
