Christmas has come and gone. I gave my brother the bruin, who is a collector of some things Rose Bowl (it’s the closest he can get to the real thing) a book written by Braven Dyer in 1947 about the history of the game written in first hand.
We discussed the SC-ucla game briefly. He was hopeful ucla could beat Nebraska. No such luck. It seems all you have to do is pressure the kid a little. I’m sure he’ll get better, but his OL does not figure to ever be better than this one until he gets to the NFL after two more seasons.
Jenny and I would have bolted right away after the family took off on Christmas afternoon, but she came down with a pretty nasty cold. It delayed our departure that day and the next, but yesterday we ended up in Rosarito Beach, staying at an AirBNB place that is straight out of the TV show where people make the tiniest living spaces possible. It is so cute; we would live here for sure. If I had the money I might buy it right now (maybe 80$k?)
Right on the beach, everything you need and want but indoor space, and back door opens to a patio on the beach.
I’m putting finish touches on spotter boards, watching another Wisconsin game on tape, perfect vacation for me!
Good place to finish up prep work on the Badgers. Their QB is tall and very skinny and has a reasonable arm. One good receiver #86. Running back is serviceable. Defense is where it’s at, with a first team AA and another first team all B10. I don’t think they’ve seen an offense like ours.
Get ahead early, stay ahead and make them play catch up and we win. But we have to show up, and you know how it is sometimes with SC and mid to lower bowl games.
Staying here until tomorrow afternoon, heading to San Diego to check in to the hotel interview Clay for the pre-game show, hit the Gaslamp (no adult beverages for me on night before game but if you see me pull up a chair!). A lot of hanging around to do at a hotel before a game that is at 7:30. Just enjoy the day with Jenny and then head over.
It’s a game vs a team we have not played in my tenure in the booth, and that’s something rare these days and something I like very much.
Just found out I am being given the Marv Goux Spirit Award this March by the Trojan Club of the Desert. Any award with his name on it is a big deal, and then I looked at the list of past recipients and it is humbling to say the least.
Hope you can come out and play golf and hear me speak on this one on March 21.
Luchar en y en!
