SCOUTING OREGON: Oregon, under third-year head coach Mark Helfrich, is coming off a hard-fought 38-36 victory at Stanford on Saturday. The Ducks once again possess a potent offense that ranks fourth nationally in rushing offense (297.4, first in Pac-12), eighth in total offense (532.6, first in Pac-12) and 10th in scoring offense (41.8, first in Pac-12). Senior transfer QB Vernon Adams Jr. (107-of-177, 60.5%, 1,673 yds, 16 TD, 5 int in 2015, plus 66 tcb, 134 yds, 2.0 avg, 2 TD), who has thrown a TD in 33 straight games (the first 26 at Eastern Washington), has directed the Duck offense most of the season. He has 12,111 career passing yards with 126 TDs at both schools. Sophomore RB Royce Freeman (210 tcb, 1,392 yds, 6.6 avg, 12 TD in 2015, plus 19 rec, 224 yds, 11.8 avg, 2 TD), the 2014 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, is seventh in the nation in rushing (139.2, first in Pac-12) and eighth in all-purpose running (161.6, second in Pac-12). He has back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons, has had 14 100- yard rushing outings and this season is 412 yards shy of the Oregon season record. Junior WR Bralon Addison (45 rec, 564 yds, 12.5 avg, 6 TD in 2015, plus 10 PR, 142 yds, 14.2 avg, 1 TD and 7 KOR, 168 yds, 24.0 avg and 13 tcb, 67 yds, 5.2 avg, 1 TD and 1-of- 2 passing, 50.0%, 39 yds, 1 TD) is a threat receiving, rushing, returning and passing. He has 16 career TD catches. Oregon’s defense is 13th nationally in sacks (2.9, second in Pac-12), but it is allowing 491.3 total yards (317.7 passing) and 37.1 points a game, all among the bottom 15 in the NCAA. Leading Duck defenders are senior ILB Joe Walker (67 tac, 4 for loss, 1 sack, 1 int, 1 dfl, 2 FR in 2015), senior ILB Rodney Hardrick (62 tac, 3 for loss, 1 sack, 1 int, 1 dfl, 1 FF in 2015), senior DE DeForest Buckner (61 tac, 13 for loss, 7.5 sack, 5 dfl in 2015), who ranks 21st nationally in sacks (0.8, first in Pac-12) and soph CB Tyree Robinson (53 tac, 1.5 for loss, 1 sack, 3 int, 4 dfl, 1 FR in 2015). Oregon is in the national Top 15 in kickoff returns (25.2) and punt returns (14.2), thanks to elusive sophomore WR/S Charles Nelson (37 tac, 2 dfl in 2015, plus 13 rec, 217 yds, 16.7 avg, 2 TD and 20 KOR, 543 yds, 27.1 avg, 1 TD), who is 18th nationally in kickoff returns (27.1, fourth in Pac-12). He and Addison have combined for 5 career scoring punt returns. Soph PK Aidan Schneider (17-of-18 FG and 49-of-49 PAT in 2015) is third nationally in field goal percentage (.944, second in Pac-12), 10th in field goals (1.7, third in Pac-12) and 11th in scoring (10.0, first in Pac-12). – from USC sports information
