SCOUTING NOTRE DAME: Sixth-year head coach Brian Kelly has his Notre Dame squad off to a fast start, including a 41-24 home win over Navy last week (the Irish’s only loss of 2015 was by 2 points on the road at Clemson). Notre Dame features a strong offense that is 13th nationally in rushing offense (238.0), 14th in total offense (502.7), 15th in passing efficiency (157.6) and 19th in scoring offense (37.8), led by sophomore QB DeShone Kizer (85-of-129, 65.9%, 1,143 yds, 8 TD, 4 int in 2015, plus 41 tcb. 128 yds, 3.1 avg, 3 TD), who is 19th nationally in passing efficiency (154.6) and 23rd in completion percentage (.659). Senior RB C.J. Prosise (110 tcb, 779 yds, 7.1 avg, 9 TD in 2015, plus 13 rec, 187 yds, 14.4 avg, 1 TD) is 10th nationally in all-purpose yards (161.0), 11th in both rushing (129.8) and in rushing TDs (9) and 20th in scoring (10.0). Junior WR Will Fuller (29 rec, 571 yds, 19.7 avg, 7 TD in 2015), whose 3 career touchdown catches are fourth in ND history and who has 7 100-yard career receiving games, is sixth nationally in receiving TDs (7) and 20th in receiving yards (95.2). Another receiving threat is senior WR Chris Brown (24 rec, 317 yds, 13.2 avg, 2 TD in 2015). The Irish defense is led by junior LB Jaylon Smith (42 tac, 5.5 for loss, 1 sack, 3 dfl, 2 FR, 1 FF in 2015), senior S Elijah Shumate (31 tac, 3 for loss, 1 int, 1 dfl in 2015) and senior LB Joe Schmidt (37 tac, 3 for loss, 2 sack, 1 dfl in 2015). Freshman PK Justin Yoon (7-of-9 FG, 24-of-26 PAT in 2015) has proven accurate this season.
