The basketball team is in prime position to take the headlines at USC. I also can't help but wonder if some fans will start taking a peek at some USC games at Galen Center.

Of course, in order to garner fan interest in LA, the team needs to win and win big.

Now onto the closed scrimmage against San Diego State.

The bad part 1: due to variety of illnesses and recovering from injuries/surgery, the team played without Elijah Weaver, Kevin Porter Jr, Bennie Boatwright and Chuck O'Bannon.

The bad part 2: SC lost by 16 (due in part to the circumstances in part 1 above imo).

The bad part 3: SC's 3 point shooting was non existent (4 for 21) but you have to again consider that Bennie and Jonah did not play (Jonah rolled his ankle 4 minutes into the game).

The good: only got rebounded 42-30. That's big considering SC didn't have Bennie on the floor.

The good part 2: trailed by 3 at halftime. Again good considering Thornton got cramps in the 2nd half.

SC bball will find it hard to garner fan support without media coverage. Media coverage needs access and Coach Enfield seems to be media averse. So its a catch-22, fans want to get excited but there is no real media buildup. Yes, the season is weeks away but player/coaching interviews would be helpful.

Went to a few games last year, including the ucla game, and it wasn’t a great experience. Just not a lot of energy. Too many empty seats. Would rather watch on tv.

I'll be there tomorrow too, but admit that most of the non-conference games are not full of crowd energy. But, while I wasn't able to go to last year's UCLA game, the one the year before was fantastic energy!

All that said, attendance is a chicken and egg issue. People need to go to create the energy, but with little energy most of the time, not enough want to go. Needs to start by getting more students there, but we need to show support too.

Here's to hoping more go this year (check out the Tommy Pass - $99 for a year and you can attend all games - you only find out your seat the day before, but for the non-conference games they are decent and you can move better from there). We did Tommy Pass the past two years but have upgraded to full season tickets this year.
