That explains why a lot of good recruits were headed elsewhere for the 2019 and 2020 classes.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and while I'm not a USC fan, I can't really talk myself out of it. You guys don't -need- Urban. He'd be a home run sort of hire, sure, but there's a part of me that is a little worried he's gassed. What you just need is a competent coach. That's really it. Your program should almost run itself.

Pete wasn't an obvious homerun, but he was an experienced head coach. A CPC (or Herm Edwards) type guy might be as big of a win as anything else. All you really need is an adult in the room that knows how to manage a football game and bring in good assistants.

I get that Harbaugh isn't working out so well at Michigan... But he's sort of a psycho. And he's got to deal with PSU and the Ohio State juggernaut every year. Just saying if they throw you a curveball, but the guy's done a few things in his career, I wouldn't be too worried.

I've always kind of thought Del Rio would do pretty well back at USC.

After watching what looks to be a disaster in the making over at UCLA with chip Kelly, Its quite possible that Urban Meyer could be our ‘Chip Kelly’. I remember a lot of hand-wringing on this board, mine included, when Kelly went to UCLA and not Florida. A Tv analyst was so jacked up over that hire he made the comment, which I bet he hopes no one remembers now, that UCLA would be in the CFP his FIRST year. Kinda sounds like a lot of the talk here about Urban

You are joking right. Kelly has a bunch of 3 star kids and has never been to a final 4. He did get them to a final game once under the old system. Urb gets teams to the final 4 regularly. He would have more talent than Chip. Please confirm that you are really comparing Chip to Urb and believe this is the same situation. Look I get you don't want to replace Helton but calling Urb Chip Kelly is an absurd statement to make. Easy to see when you slam the possible replacements you are advocating keeping the incumbent.

You are such a piece of work. If you are going to put words and thoughts into my posts to fit your agenda Please don’t bother to respond. To think I used to believe you were a fair minded poster makes me question myself. I am normally a pretty good judge of people. Guess I missed it with you.

In your post you ask the question “where is the quick slant?”. In case you haven’t noticed the quick slant is the the play we run over and over at the goal line that keeps getting intercepted!

This team is not going 10-2....
he would deserve to be kept if that miracle happened

I agree, any competent coach can win at USC.

If you have a roster of 50+ 4-5* recruits and half decent assistant coaches all the HC needs to do is be a good manager. But if we are going to get a new coach then we should get the best coach. Rio would be nothing more than a 4th option.

So because he called you out for doing what you just did he is a bad person? I went back and read your post and thought the exact same thing.

Urban Meyer is the second greatest coach of in recent history, behind Nick Saban.

Chip Kelly was a gimmick coach that had Nike as his booster. I personally think UCLA is going to turn the corner next season. But as of right now they suck.

That is true. Any school that fires a 9 or 10 win coach is NOT going to be able to recruit a good replacement. No good coach would want to enter a toxic environment.

True but you could also make the case that retaining a coach with a 5-7 season with a talented team in a weak conference also shows prospective coaches there is really good job security at heritage hall.

    That’s not true at all.

All coaches know how elite SC is, and the expectations that come with the gig.

9-3 to go along with 5-7, plus the Cotton Bowl loss is 14-11 over the past 2 years, or a .560 win %.

Everyone in CFB knows that won’t cut it at SC.

    But 9-3 is still... BS
    Not gonna happen.

hire the AD and start the search for the new head coach...
