It's not that Bama finds them -- there are always a few out there every year. The problem is they all end up going to Bama.

Couldn’t even get RB Harris, a CA kid. Trojans are doomed via a vis a national for what, another decade?

Many of the OLine we know are true studs, Leatherwood, Carmen Jackson, Penei Sewell, the list goes on and on, that we pursued, but these kids did not want to play for Helton, Callaway or Drevno. These guys are going to be house hold names on Sunday! I remember a picture of Carmen sitting on the rooftop overlooking the beach on his recruiting visit. I also remember EA and Solo at the Poly bowl trying to persuade Penei to join them. Imagine having just those 2 wearing Cardinal and gold with AVT and Austin Jackson, we would have a running game without Harrell’s one dimensional Air Raid offense. But Helton is a 7 on 7 guy and loves finesse offense!

Same place everyone finds them, from Top 300 recruiting lists...except Bama develops them and puts them in a position for success.

Sorry I misread the thread I thought it read Oline. I think Tufele could hang with these guys.

The difference between the current football programs of Alabama vs. USC is equivalent to a FCS college program vs. a parent-coached Pop-Warner team. The gap is that wide...

It's not so much finding them as it is a consistent winning program is a magnet for top talent. Win and they will come.

When you have the greatest college coach of all time, you don't find them, they find you!

I think Carr and Harris were in the same class weren't they? We seemed to recruit Carr much harder than we did Harris.

Yep Harris was the #1 back and Carr the #2. 4 years later look where they're at. It's all about player development!

Have seen these studs at SC & pains me that they didn’t want to play for Clay. Recall GarryP pointing out Leatherwood on HJ. Damm

I get the feeling even if Harris would have come, we'd have found a way to ruin him. We're just a soft team, soft culture. The rare exception player breaks the mold (Juju/Adoree/Tufunga), but most fall into the existing culture.

At a minimum we would not have used him anything like he should be used.

At a minimum, our weight program would have deflated him by 15 lbs of muscle, our OL would have him taking on 4 tacklers at the LOS each play and our lovely AR offense would never give him the ball to run.

Perhaps he could break out on special teams as a gunner...

It didn't used to be this way. I can't recall the state of Alabama ever putting this amount of top HS players...ever. It was always about competing w/ LSU for players throughout the South and getting skill players from Texas/FL.

Something has definitely changed to establish AL as a FB hotbed...perhaps even more than GA.

Or...perhaps Bama just has the program to turn any player it gets into a stud. Did you see the smaller white Flanker Bolden? Tell me that guy starts at SC or gets any playing time?

Nature/nurture...I say Saban has the nurture at 70% and just needs that 30% nature that he can cherry-pick nationally or homegrow.
