Serious question, what do we do? Coach Enfield has brought more talent to USC basketball program than any recent coach. Yet the talent does not develop. Watching SC play basketball is painful. Rakocevic can be great or horrible, but when he’s horrible Enfield keeps playing him. Nick never blocks anyone out and mostly gets rebounds when no one battles him. Thornton is a disaster and everyone can see that Weaver was the better player this season.

I can cite other examples that highlight general deficiencies in Enfield’s coaching, but what is the point? I don’t think anyone thinks Enfield is a good X and O guy. That being said, I honestly don’t know what the resolution is. We have such a great recruiting class coming in, maybe the talent can overcome the lack of coaching. It would be horrible to fire Enfield and lose this epic class.

What are other opinions on the matter?

You cut your losses and move on. It's not like this guy is a Shaka Smart or a Jamie Dixon who threw up a brick or two after lots of success. Enfield had exactly ONE good season (out of two total as a HC) and Haden drank the Kool Ade and hired him when there were plenty of people out there he could have built a program around. No signature wins in the last two years, NOT A SINGLE ONE! He's as incompetent a HC in BB as Helton is in football but because he brings unbelievable talent into the program, some people (none of whom know the first thing about college BB) want to give him yet another year on his "learning curve" thinking he is finally going to figure out who should get the minutes and who shouldn't.

We all agree this bum can't coach for a shit. But really....great recruiter??? He hired next year's recruiting class.....period. And he had the balls to do so less than a year after his Assistant Coach was indicted by the FBI. Enfield is useless. However, the university has a lame duck President, a lame duck AD and is falling apart at the seems. When the lawsuits and FBI indictments arrive on your doorstep on the daily.....this turd of a program is a major afterthought.

Last four years SC has won more basketball games than any other four year period in school history ... if not Andy E who is better that will come and coach at the school with the poorest student and alumni support in power five conferences
Just saying watch what you ask for

Well, Mike Hopkins wanted the job. Looks like he's doing pretty well at Udub......

How do you know that? Hopkins was at Syracuse and was head coach in waiting - that's the job he wants. But Boeheim decided to stay and his son is now on the team and Boeheim will coach a few more years. Guess who will be head coach when Boeheim retires?

You can get the alumni excited if you have a coach with more charisma and a team that plays well. Have to agree with the OP that for whatever reason, Enfield just doesn't get his talent to play. He has had time, this may be the time to pull the trigger, the heck with the rest of the athletics department. At least he needs to have a review and let him know he is at risk.

And after the first of those four seasons (where a lot of people were starting to think that maybe the hire wasn't so bad after all), he had exactly one signature win, which means that four-year record you're so proud of was courtesy of a lot of OOC stiffs. If you want to play the "who will come hand", then we need to extend Helton yet another five years because it's no secret that the football program is now held in the same light in the coaching community as the basketball program.

Glad the team played hard and almost beat the best team in the conference. Seemed like Weaver and KPjr missed too much time to effectively learn Enfield's schemes and would often get quick hooks for not doing their job. Weaver started coming on at the end of the year, so I have high hopes for him as the starting PG moving forward. The problem this year was Enfield needs consistent play from his PG and C. Mathews didn't always shoot lights out, but he often played smart. BB had by far his best year as a Trojan. J-Mac and Metu to Thornton and Rak was just too big of a gap in production and they often played selfishly either by dominating the ball or letting their emotions get the best of them and getting into foul trouble respectively. Behind them was Weaver who didn't know the plays and Big Vic who has zero ball skills, so when DT and Rak sucked the team tanked and Enfield's hands were tied.

If Rak sticks around, I think he'll do well next year and can play aggressive all he wants with Big O soaking up his foul trouble minutes. I'd be surprised if Thornton stays, he and his Dad want to play a certain way and it doesn't fit Enfield's design. Even with Porter off to the NBA, I expect USC to finish top 4 and make the tourney next season. Will have the depth to play more man and press unlike this season. Let's just hope the freshmen don't all get injured/sick and miss all of the preseason. Really set Weaver and KPjr back this year and they didn't have the impact USC needed them to to make up for all the other problems on the team. While this season was hard to swallow, I'm willing to give Enfield another shot to see how far he can take a top 10 class with maybe a key grad transfer (ideally PG). Another year of missing the tourney will probably signal time for a change.

Just a review, when Enfield was hired, we had a last place team and no returning players, and btw, no tradition. We had nothing. Hopkins who just beat us by a whopping 3 points inherited a full team.

Hopkins is a defensive coach, can you even imagine recruiting off a last place team in so cal, telling players come to USC because we will play great defense. Do you think we would have gotten Jmac, Chimize or Bennie with that sell

And so how did Shaka Smart do this year.

So you tell them to come to USC because they can do anything (stupid) they want offensively and they won't get benched? Yeah, that's worked well!

And the funny thing is that for the past few years, they played better defense than offense which is something I didn't expect when they hired Enfield. Hell, if he is going to stay, perhaps he SHOULD tell players to come to USC because we will play great defense.

Yes, thanks for the link! I knew SC had considered him but heard he has no interest. Stand corrected.

He's worth keeping for that program just for the younger brother to come in 2 years from now. He's a #1 pick

I’d start by firing Caruso & Austin. And I wouldn’t stop there.

Need to shitcan the whole BOT. They’re all a bunch of useless incompetents. The mere fact that they all sat with their thumbs up their collective rectums while giving the SC Pimp a lifetime seat at the table should speak volumes about their seriousness in overseeing SCs direction.

Need to trash every one of their pictures, erase their names from the SC history books and start fresh...with people who actually have a moral compass.
