I was there. Strangely I was totally quiet during those 4 downs completely engrossed in the gravity of each play. After that goal line stand I breathed a sigh of relief then started cheering.

Been going to SC games at the Coli since 1965 and that was the loudest I can ever recall it being. Great game. Opening drive was a masterpiece and really looked like we would cruise. So intense those last four plays.

Side note - the Dodgers won their first playoff game since 1988 later that evening so it was a great day for LA sports!

The Coliseum got extremely loud when the PA announcer stated that the player of the game was the USC defense.

One of the best memories of Pete's teams was that moment and that goal line stand. It was awesome and I think I lost my voice that afternoon. No one sat in our section. Definitely a top 10 Pete Carroll moment.

There were those who would tell me had Cal scored the TD that they would've won the game. This was not entirely accurate as Cal took over with just under 2 minutes in the 4th with SC leading by 5. A Cal TD would've given them a 1 point lead (which I would imagine they would have gone for 2).
Either way SC gets the ball back with most likely over a minute left to drive into field goal range and kick the attempt. Sure glad it didn't come to that.

This is definitely an upcoming story, or at least a message board topic.

Everyone was standing in my section screaming, lol. Pete use to say at MMQB when the crowd was loud the other teams would make mistakes so he encouraged fans to make Noise

So funny story - my brother and I had season tickets and went to most games. However, 10-9-04 was my brother's wedding (why during the football season is another story;'). Hence, this was the only 2004 home game we did not attend in person (I did go to VaTech in DC earlier that season as well;').

When SC got up early we were happy as we figured a quick blow out and no problem getting to the ceremony on time. Well as Aaron Rodgers went on that 20 or 22 consecutive completions run it got tight - not only in score but our ability to make the wedding on time. Hence for the last 5-6 min of the game - we had each groomsmen run into the bathroom and change into their tuxes on each time-out or significant stoppages in play. Good thing there were a lot of time stops;')

Then the last stand happened and we were probably within 5 minutes of having to make "The Hangover" call to my brother's future wife "yeah that is not going to happen" in terms of getting to the wedding on in time when they held off Cal. We then raced to the wedding site and made it ... barely (no small feat for me as I was in crutches having ruptured my achilles about 5-6 weeks earlier). In the end ... the win was awesome to see and the wedding went great;'). Fight On!

It was intense and LOUD. I have been at many down to the wire games and that was one of the loudest I remember.

I believe College Gameday was there for that one, as well, no? Corso picked it right.
