Totally agree. Greg got burned a lot when he was in there! But he definitely got his chance to show what he could do.

Hunter Echols is now gone. Care to spin this one too. By the way Jones was our best kick returner.

I'd say Tyler Vaughns is the better kick returner....that guy catches the ball effortlessly, is a smooth runner, and actually has some moves.

Velus didn't to squat as a returner. Yeah, he'd get to the 20-25, but the few times he got to the 30 yd. line, he tripped over the grass snakes cuz he was so surprised he wasn't down yet.

    Come back, Trevon Sidney!

And WOW! on the Echols move....strange.

Agree about Vaughns. But we don't want to risk injury on kick-offs with him. Jones likely would have started in 4-5 WR sets because everyone else already left.

You make an excellent point if these guys are part of the cancer in the locker room and in practice then cleaning house is necessary. Letting them know to shape up or ship out is the first step to changing the culture around the team. If not losing these players does hurt. Remember last year when we had all the injuries at safety. GJ had game experience and Clancy only trust players he knows knows his defense. Most of these 3* FR CB's are most likely not going to see the field. He would have been a good depth player. Same for Velus. A injury or two from being a starter. Plus he may have still been our kick returner. If these players including Echoles are cancers then good riddance. If not we have a major problem.

Velus no longer in there. Maybe a change of heart?

Harrell just got here about a month ago. I don’t understand how these kids can make a decision as they are just getting oriented to new offensive system. There has to be more then that. Second, you cannot tell about a player’s contributions if they did not have the proper coaching which has been the case with Helton and his past staff. Something is going on and going in to the portal is a tale telling sign that maybe the players are quiting on this coaching staff. Or maybe Helton is stepping it up and the players don’t like the changes. Either way it would be nice to have someone explain what is going on!

I was being sarcastic. I really wanted us to get Puka. I was really upset that we lost him. Not having a OC in place and not keeping in contact with him letting him know he was a priority was a foolish and costly. Now with this system and us getting short at receivers we really could use him.

Wait a second. If you click on the link DarnellJax so kindly posted you can see commented at 5pm PT saying "UPDATE: Echols tells me he is now out of the transfer portal..." then post a link to a board I do not subscribe too.

So there's a chance Echols is still around but even if he did enter and then remove his name, it's concerning

If I understand it correctly, entering the portal is a way to test the waters if another school wants you. It's not a given you will leave once entering the portal. You might not get picked up by a place you want to go. Is that right?

There are a lot of players listed who have yet to find a home.

It's a risk the player takes because the school you're leaving can choose to revoke your scholarship.

So the portal effectively enables free agency for these athletes and formalizes a way for schools to actively recruit other schools' players. Meanwhile we still take the hit on graduation rates and signing caps if they leave? That's not sustainable -- NCAA better fix that or it's going to destabilize a lot of programs as kids and schools start exploiting this.

It just doesn't make sense for those two guys to transfer. They are needed rotation guys.
Velus Jones is the perfect fit for the Air Raid. With his speed he will get the ball in space and
take off. He is an more experienced receiver and will definitely get playing time in the Air Raid.
Don't see a better situation for him elsewhere.
Also, Greg Johnson is the most experienced CB. He has made his mistakes and knows the position.
He would at least be a co starter. Again a slot for him that he doesn't want?
Seems like there are other issues involved.
The morale of the team needs to be discussed and fixed.
