...with Jimmy Lake as their HC.
He’s proven to be a beast on the recruiting trail, has proven his DC chops and might very well take their program back to an elite level. Time will tell.

While so many posters on this site poo poo the idea of us hiring someone without HC experience, I’d be more than willing to have us take a “risk” by hiring an asst coach with great credentials. Btw, Ryan Day is 15-0 as a HC and had zero experience.

How did that work out with Helton?

Yeah, but what had Helton even accomplished as an assistant? He wasn’t a top recruiter, nor was he regarded as any sort of rising star in coaching circles.

Ryan Day took over the USC (Minus the administrative BS) of the North. Ohio State like USC is a blue blood that can get exceptional talent with any coach that isn't a pure loser like Helton. Not to mention he also is riding the train the Urban Meyer built. All the guy has to do is recruit and motivate. Urban Meyer already put a system in place.

It's just insane to suggest that Washington will be better off without one of the greatest coaches in recent memory. It's a pity that we never got to see what Petersen could have done with UW once they finally became got into the top 15 in terms of talent. But they have been trending up since he got there. Lake like Ryan Day is going to be riding the foundation that Petersen has been building for years.

Ryan Day is 15-0 with Meyer's players. Larry Coker won a NT and then was canned...time will tell.

I really, really, really dislike Helton.

But to say he is not a good recruiter is a lie.

you could make a case he is a good salesman. Many bought on to his "hospitality" and went with it. And then the post-Darnold era exposed Helton and you saw a decline in the recruiting.

Yes, you can miss. But what about Dabo, what about Smart, what about Mullen?? The list goes on. It's the who more than being an assistant.

So now the line has BECOME, Chris Petersen really WASN'T that great of a Head Coach? Wow...I don't BELIEVE there's a single football program in America that, as of this moment, believes UW is INSTANTLY better off without Chris Petersen. C'mon, man!

    Fight On, FOREVER, Fight On!

Ryan Day coached in the NFL as a QB coach with the Niners and Eagles. 2015/2016
He was the OC @ Boston College
OC at OSU for 3 years before getting promoted.
He's been coaching in College or pro's since 2006.

He has a pretty impressive background.

Jimmy Lake has a similar background.

He could turn out to be good. I'm not ready to say he's better than Petersen. Plus if Pete Kwiatkowski leaves he's in trouble.

Uh, they will finish 7-5, with losses to Cal, Stanford, and Colorado. I think they'd be even worse without lucking into a QB transfer. Yes, they've been good under CP, but major downturn this season.
Another overrated Boise St coach, a la Dirk Koetter, Dan Hawkins? Possibly.

7 - 5? DIDN'T KNOW UW WAS THAT AWFUL, EVEN WORSE THAN HELTON

Maybe fans who'd had been hurling curses at Swann and Haden for not bringing in Petersen or Herman (also 7 - 5) may want to tame things down a little bit. They may not have been the saviors people made them out to be.

He went to the playoffs. Two Big six bowls. Three Conference titles.
The guy is considered a Top 10 coach in the nation by just about every expert.

He absolutely is a good coach. I was merely addressing the "trending up" assertion. Can't say that after the season they've had, which, in fact, may have factored into his departure. Maybe he knew they are, in fact, trending down?

Just putting this out here, not endorsing it.

saw this from a big UW fan on another board:

Hopefully it won't significantly affect what was supposed to be a very good recruiting year. This year has been a shitshow for UW. It's not that they went 7-5, it's like you said, the seeming lack of caring by the players and some decisions by coaches that ranged from questionable to obviously horrible. From not using young WRs, to abandoning a successful run game for no reason during games, to stupid trick plays that never work, to tipping off defenses on downs that could be either run or pass (with empty backfield or wildcat), to recruiting/developing ILBs that were the worst anyone can remember at UW.

JimmyLake is a beast. He will do great there. Washington has made the best coaching hire so far. I had him as #2 choice after Urban.

Ken Niumatalolo with an OC ?
