Who would have thought that Cody Kessler would have a more successful NFL career than Matt Barkley?

USC will also be in the hunt for WR U!
Also a shot at top 5 for DL and RB

The only thing unfortunate about USC QB’s is that although they typically have outstanding collegiate careers, very few turn out to be elite NFL QB’s.....

I would say they are about even. Both had spot starts and solid back up roles. I always thought Barkley was overrated and Kessler underrated in terms of their USC years. However it looks like both of them will leave the league without their brains scattered; and most body parts still intact.

He didn't have a longer career than Palmer. But lasted way longer than Leinart.

Palmer had an excellent career but he was cheapshot in that playoff game against Pittsburgh and he wasn't really the same after that. Those bastards did the same thing to Keith Rivers.

It's easy to look amazing playing against Washington State/Oregon State/Cal/Arizona defenses with 4-5* talent throwing and catching the ball. I'm not distracting from how great our guys potentially are but it would be nice to see them play to their true potential against teams who aren't basically good high school squads.

Kind of ridiculous that Mark Sanchez has a higher point total than Carson Palmer.

10 years before the CPC era, Rob Johnson also had a pretty decent NFL career. Not special or spectacular, but he did last 15 years in the league.

My recollection is that Kessler was savvy, seemed to take what the D gave him and over all managed the game well. But he lacked an ability to rally the team for the come from behind TD. That might have had more to do with the OC, but I recall it being a point of frustration. I admired Barkley for his dedication during a difficult time. I'm afraid that the impact of sanctions caught up to the Trojans in his Sr year, but he sure led the team well in the year before that.

I have a theory that Barkley hurt his shoulder sometime between his junior and senior year and really screwed up his mechanics. His junior year was amazing. One of the best ever by a Trojan, but his senior year he was really mediocre. You could tell he just didn't have that zip on the ball.

Your theory might have some merit. I thought Barkley did a great job of keeping the team together during the sanctions, until his senior year when the whole thing fell apart.

Agree but if I have to choose, I'll take the QB every time.

Absolutely. I've watched several SC games on Pac-12 network lately, and the difference in passing accuracy and consistency between Slovis and the other SC QBs (with the exception of Darnold) is stunning. Especially the two games I watched with Kessler, who by comparison was all over the place. It's night and day.

I read something a couple months ago where Slovis was working on his footwork. My reaction was WHY? Unless he's working with Warner, don't mess with it!

He's still a young-ish QB. Most QBs don't show their true worth until they've been in the league a good 4 or 5 years. Even those guys who make a big splash as rookies often come back down to earth by their 2nd and 3rd years.

However, getting drafted by the Jets is basically a death sentence to one's career. They're one of the most dysfunctional organizations in sports.

of the 10-20 qbs signed each year far less than one turns out elite.
