So, who would want to come to USC to help "fix" the issues?...any coach who wants to work in an environment THEY believe THEY can influence in a positive way...especially with the potential ATHLETES at his disposal...as well, any coach who might be looking to move upward in the profession (even after falling downward...see K2) could surely see the opportunity to REBOUND a career. Each process involves a negotiation...that'll be the key and the challenge. Fight On, FOREVER, Fight On! RB4SC Rodgarnay51 likes this.

If Helton ultimately fails then upper management (Athletic Director) gets two or three chances--i.e., two or three head coaches; think of all the coaches UCLA's AD burned through. Owners (here, the Board of Trustees) value 0rganizational stability and continuity over the long run--along with success, of course. Whether such a house-cleaning as we're seeing is Helton's idea, Swann's, or more likely a collaboration, it signals a break with the recent past and a determination to improve. The process is painful, but stepping back and appreciating the dynamics involved as they grind onward has its own macabre charm.

USC: Source tells FootballScoop Clancy Pendergast is interested in hiring Illinois defensive line coach Austin Clark. Clark, who has coached defensive line at Illinois one season, previously spent 2016 & ’17 on USC’s staff working with the defensive line and linebackers. Prior to joining the SC staff for the ’16 season, Clark spent one season as a recruiting assistant at Cal where he played defensive tackle. Fight On, FOREVER, Fight On! RB4SC

But to fire him to hire someone with even less experience is just absurd if that's what happens. That wouldn't even be a lateral move, it's backwards. reaLchaZZZy likes this.

He thought very highly of Clark as I asked him what he thought was the regression in Dline play from year to year. I was very intrigued by his comment because all along I thought it was BKU. And don’t get me wrong I still think BKU is a good coach and recruiter, but hearing from Kevin obviously legitimizes Austin as a good hire! Fight On! Rodgarnay51 likes this.
