We have a HOF coach that has won 2 NC at 2 different schools living in LA that wants back in. With Pat Haden, Rick Caruso, Crooked Max Nikias we have had a mess. If Folt doesn’t hire him, we will be stuck in another 5 year experiment. Don’t blame Meyer for the crap at OS-give me a brake. Hire him now and the holier than thou pipe down.

If they hire UM do you think he’ll retain Harrell for his OC?

He should and then bring in his own OL and RB coach to bring some power, smash-mouth football to mix it up.

Steven Spielberg is on the BOT along with many other billionaires and multi-millionaires. Please don't tell me we can't AFFORD Meyer. This is a golden egg opportunity. Get it done. Write the check!

Flyfish, we are salivating at the prospect because then we can recruit the beasts from the Southeast...because we all know West Coast talent sucks.

Lol. So Spielberg and other Board members should write their own checks for a coach? Or you somehow think their time on the Board has compensated them millions? It isn't about affording Meyer or anyone else. It's about how much the University and an AD decide they WANT to pay a HC.

If they were to hire UM, I would hope he would bring in the best OC he could find to run his offense without being obligated to retain any of the current assistant coaches or coordinators.

No. Meyer is a do it his way guy. He would probably bring in people he trusts and worked with before. He has a strength and condition guy at OSU he likes (Mickey Marotti). He hired him 4 times. I'll bet he would make a run at him first. I don't see him keeping anyone from the Kiffin, Sark, Helton tree.

If I had to guess who would stay?

This. SC could pay a coach $20M/year - and if that coach won like PC did, it would be worth every penny. You hit it on the head - will they "choose" to pony up and go for someone like CUM? I don't think they should hire him - he has way too many skeletons in the closet - but I understand how desperate this fanbase needs hope. I do think there are other coaches out there who could consistently win the Pac-12 and have a good chance at consistently making the playoff. I also think we will see a 6 or 8 team playoff in the near future - and that will guarantee a Pac-12 rep every year. So, go out and find someone who consistently has his teams prepared to play, knows how to make in game adjustments and finishes strong. My list:
    - Venables
    - Stoops
    - Aranda
    - maybe Campbell/Heupel (on the fence on these two)

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Is this the first time someone posted that we should hire Urban Meyer?

Why hasn't someone thought of this before?

He has won NC's on his own with his own style and his own OC's. I'm sure he could decide what kind of Offense he wants and who he wants to run it. If he wants Harrell I'm sure he'll ask him.

No doubt, I would love the hire. BUT I would have caution taped wrapped around him at all times.

Meyer will be our next coach in several weeks, as Heltons recruiting, and player retention, and player development has already done him in... He is a dead man walking.......his tenure is almost done, 10 wins this year won't save him, because the future looks ominous without a talent pipeline

As far as concerns about Meyer, Helton has had several guys get in legal trouble, why is anyone freaked out about Meyer?

I sure hope you’re right. Although it wasn’t THIS administration, the ‘SC administration has botched so many pivotal decisions over the last decade that I just don’t have the hope and trust in them to get it right this time after their many repeated failures.

    See:
Not retaining Coach O, hiring 7-Win Sark over Peterson, hiring Country Club Swann, hiring helLton, Swannie extending helLton’s contract

Actually listing all of these awful mistakes makes one realize that this fan base has endured a near-endless parade of misery.

End the nightmare already. Hire Urban.

Where in LA is he living? If it’s Manhattan Beach or Pasadena, one would think the SC influence would be strong, and irresistible. It’s kinda like the Force. Plus, those places are two of the best places in SoCal.
