This is a very good point. Maya just cost USC 20 million bucks, no wonder they're pissed.

Can't believe how much you have you panties in a wad over rumors and speculation. Haven't heard directly from anyone at SC what is going on or why. They do not owe you anything in terms of explanations. I can assure you that they know what they're doing, though you might handle it differently.

This is so true. All the turmoil is due to actions of outsiders, not the Administration. They have been calling for 'adult' administrators for a couple of years now, and when they get some, they struggle with it. SC has kept mum for a reason - to avoid crap like this..... if they are pissed it is because despite all their efforts, the storm still came.
What will be, will be. If Helton stays, that is what will be. If Helton is let go, that is what will be as well. This board has become a scratching post for our angst.

Have to agree that the administration is not causing this. The press is always looking for a story.
And the press have not made any false statements. Helton was still the coach as of Dec 1 and now.
Yes, over 95 of the fan base wants Helton removed.
The other 1% are his friends and relatives and other teams wanting him to stay.
They don't want USC football back.

    On his own rumor?

    Get a grip, man.

I actually considered this also. If so, it puts them in a really weird spot now. Either way, it's unfortunate that the SI writer did that if it had any effect on the timing of an announcement of any kind.

Let's quit blaming the girls. This IS grown-ass men gossiping and rumor-mongering because, well, some of y'all like to do it too. First one to report ANYTHING, or the one with "inside info" is the power player.....lol.

Of course you are correct, USC doesn't "owe" fans anything in terms of internal decisions. However, I disagree that "they know what they're doing". Just way too many phuck ups over recent years. Josh Shaw? Max refusing to accept the letter from the Times? Secretly paying off a pervert with the hopes that story would disappear?

IMO, it is being handled poorly. The genesis isn't the fault of the administration, but once that kind of story hits, they needed to be more in front of it and quit putting the word out by simple response. The dead air is going to get filled one way or the other. USC can fill it, or continue to sit back and let us continue to look like the clown college John Anderson accused us of 5 years ago.

You don't do that to the kids.
You don't ask them, and you don't make them decide, and you don't pretend they even have anything to do with it - somehow what would come out of that is that it's their fault. It would divide them, putting some on the "wrong" side, whichever is the opposite of what was decided. You want to lose the locker room before you've even started? Do it that way.

This is like a divorce man, gotta keep it between the adults.

This whole communication mess falls on the PR company that is advising the USC administration. They should have known this was coming and usually they have several plans to address the media. For starters, if they have not made a decision they should have came forth and advised the media and the public of their decision to avoid speculation. If they have made their decision, they could have set a future announcement date. As I have stated in the past whoever the PR company that is advising the administration is not very good. Their job is to avoid the speculation by being proactive. There number 1 job is to keep the USC brand in a positive perspective. Right now Helton is drawing the sympathy card enduring the negative speculation as he is still a contracted USC employee. Whether it is deserved is not the point, he still is an employee and USC’s image of handling this situation is not a good reflection on the University!

Make a decision! Either support him or kick him to the curb. As others have said..."what more information do they need?" The assistants should have a right to look for new jobs, if they do the right thing. Delaying an announcement just makes the players and coaches sweat a little more and makes the University look like...well...you know.

The only legit reason to hold off an announcement is if a huge buyout is contingent on a specific date in the near future.

It’s not my rumor. Others have been posting this point about SC owing more money if terminated before 12/2 and I said I don’t know if it’s true. I was just explaining to Erik that it could potentially be a reason for them saying no decisions have been made since Erik had expressed that it doesn’t make sense that they would still be “undecided.” It would make sense if it is true that the money decreases on or after 12/2.

Why is an announcement of Helton's retaining important? Some act like fan sites matter. No matter how you cut it you don't count.

Or you’re waiting to lock up his replacement. You have more leverage in negotiations if you still have another option.

What ?? more wide receivers ?? How about recruiting some big, strong, fast offensive linemen for a change. We've already had too many QBs injured. Enough of the aerial extravaganza already. That's Texas Tech football. USC fans want USC football.

Fan sites don't really matter, but recruits do, which I'm assuming is the primary reason they announced he was staying last year when everyone thought he was done.

Its important if they do retain him to announce as quick as possible to save recruiting. The uncertainty is what's actually hurting recruiting. Potential prospects have asked the current staff if they will be back next year and they answered that they don't know. Not only will prospects not commit to that uncertainty but that uncertainty is used by other schools to negatively recruit against USC.

Not sure if you've notice but we have 6 OL commits at the moment, this is actually a big factor on why the rankings are low. OL prospects tend to have lower rankings, there are only two 5 stars in the entire country.
