According to an announcement from Suzanne Nora Johnson, the chair of the Athletics Director Search Advisory Committee, the two previously unnamed student-athletes appointed to the Search Advisory Committee are Talanoa Hufanga and Track & Field standout Anna Cockrell.

She also announced that Turnkey Search will assist the committee and President Folt with the search. Here is some of the message:

"Turnkey Search, a highly regarded intercollegiate athletics search firm, will assist the advisory committee and President Folt. Beginning next week, they will be on campus for a series of listening sessions with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff. Invitations for those sessions will be sent shortly. However, we recognize that not everyone will be able to attend so we encourage you to continue emailing us at adsearch@usc.edu with questions, suggestions, and any candidate nominations.

As President Folt wrote a few weeks ago, our committee is dedicated to finding an experienced, accomplished individual with exceptional integrity and a commitment to putting student-athletes first. Over the course of this process, you will undoubtedly hear rumors and conjecture, particularly on social and sports-related media. Please know that we will maintain absolute confidentiality to ensure that we can successfully recruit the very best candidates for this role."

Turnkey Search lists their top athletic director placements as those at Michigan, Alabama, Nebraska, Minnesota, Bowling Green, Georgia Tech, and Georgetown.

It was also the firm LSU used when they hired Ed Orgeron, Ole Miss used to hire Matt Luke, and Michigan basketball used to hire Juwann Howard (obviously, among filling plenty of other positions).

Not one exec at Turnkey is from the West Coast or educated on the West Coast. Interesting. Mostly Northeast....looks like the McKinsey of recruiting firms.

    According to them, How They Work;

We’re called Turnkey for a reason: our industry experience, tenure and technology enable us to work deeper, smarter and faster. We prioritize diversity & inclusion - always. Our process takes less than four weeks to deliver a slate; and less than four more weeks to make a hire. We stay hands-on to conclusion.

So we'll have an AD in less than 4 weeks, or so they say.

KF was hired to find a HC, not an AD. Big difference. Nevertheless, the money paid to KF (headed up by a Trojan) by Haden was nothing more than an opportunity for Haden to claim plausible deniability so he couldn't be accused of dissing Ed O or be blamed for hiring a drunk.
    Absolutely. Great choices.

My math from your post looks more like up to 8 weeks, It would be interesting to know how much they get involved in the compensation negotiations.

Thank you for the correction. I got too focused on that last line.

The person likely heading up the search...
"Intercollegiate Athletics is led by Gene DeFilippo, with 40+ years’ experience in the profession. Gene’s career in college sports started in 1975 as a football coach and then he became one of the nation’s top athletics administrators: A top Associate under C.M. Newton at Kentucky, AD at Villanova and AD at Boston College. Gene’s 40 years running athletics departments includes multiple national championships across several sports. Gene serves on the Board of Directors of the National Football Foundation (NFF) and the National Association of Collegiate Athletics Directors (NACDA). Gene is a past President of NACDA. Turnkey’s college recruiting team, led by Gene, has more hands-on college sports expertise than any other search firm. "

Ugh. I know who the current Nova AD is.

As for compensation, most search firms don't get involved. They typically charge a fee that, at this level, that would be around 30% of the annual salary. The candidate will usually negotiate their own compensation package.

    No difference really
We used KF to hire a coach already on staff, LSU hired them to find a coach and they ended up hiring Ed who was already there. In fact I believe both were already interim HC.

    Really?

Michigan used them to find an AD and they find the second or third most well known BB player.
    Really?

I don’t believe he lives in Boston any longer, but we could do worse than Kevin Bruce. At least he’s been successful in the private sector.

A listening tour, including faculty? Do we care what an English Prof wants in an AD?

I'm sure they did. It's just interesting that a firm with ZERO West Coast alums or ties was hired. On pure surface, it looks like their candidate pool isn't likely going to be from here.

I have met DeFilippo on several occasions ( I also am a BC alum). Nice enough guy but was not the greatest AD. He can point to hiring Al skinner as the BB coach and, depending on how you feel about it, taking BC into the ACC as successes. His 2 hires as Football coach were not great; Jagodzinski - whom he fired after year 2 for interviewing with the Jets and Frank Spaziani, who it turns out was a good defensive coordinator.

Maybe he is better at finding ADs then being one.
