Lasorda was the last of a more colorful and organic time in baseball. Of course there were still racial, drug and labor issues in baseball in the 70's 80's but it was before saber metrics, 300 million dollar contract, the corporatization of everything and wokeness. You could get out of stadium with your kids for less than a week's salary.

BTW, I read that there are three mascots in the MLB HOF and Tommy hit all three of them. LOL Not sure if true but makes good copy.

Long time Dodger fan here...Tommy was part and parcel of mine and familys Dodger fandom....

True story - Spring training 2019, my brother took his U10 travel ball team to Ariz to take in games, and play some other teams there...well, they ran into Tommy at one of the games, and he ended up giving up a lot of his time to the kids, taking pics, and just imparting old fashioned love of the game stuff to the 9-10 year olds...

Those kids, and their parents were just ecstatic...this travel team is from the SGV, so lots of Dodger fans in the group...

Im so happy the Dodgers finally won another one, before Tommy went to meet the Big Dodger in the Sky.....

    Rip Sir...

Hell, I remember when the outfield bleacher seats were like $2.50 ( something in that range) for years , and the Dodgers had a hard time wrestling with the idea of raising the prices, and shutting off some fans in being able to watch their beloved Dodgers...

    I miss the OMalleys....

That's my dad on the left and Tommy on the right. Army, North Carolina, 1947. Tommy and Rod Dedeaux were very close friends and when Rod retired, Tommy was the guest speaker, rather, "roaster-in-chief" at the ceremony. My dad played for Rod so I was lucky enough to attend. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard. Tommy was hilarious....baseball players and coaches have the best stories and it's not even close.

Tommy changed the game of baseball for the better, was a Dodger through and through. RIP Tommy!

I loved it when he thru kisses up there to the crowd, I think the north beach eateries loved him though.......he came into the league when it needed him, he was great for television sports back then plus a great coach, 75 of his minor leaguers made it to the big leagues.....that is amazing as he was big league manager for so many more years.....

USC could use a coach like him

I recall Mickey Hatcher doing a hilarious physical imitation of Lasorda.
