Why not outbid whatever Texas is paying him now, and entice him with the opportunity to return to California (he moved to So Cal when he was 6)? He's easily one of the Top 10 CFB coaches (if not top 5).

If we want to return to national prominence, the choice for next HC is everything! Don't settle for anything less...

I wanted him when he was at UH.

We have a better shot at Patterson....

Herman lost today to Oklahoma- not sure why everyone thinks this guy is so great. He’s probably better than Helton but that isn’t saying much now is it?

One score game late in the 4th, vs Oklahoma, and you say he’s “probably” better than Dough. Wow.

the guy took over several years of Mac Brown then a superturd coach with Strong.

yes, it’s safe to say TH is probably better than Dough

Why would he leave Texas or Riley leave OU?
I think they could both do great with this team.
But they're doing great with Blue Blood programs at schools whose support for football has _never_ wavered one bit.
I don't think SC is a "lateral" move, football wise or institutionally (as academic institutions we're a big step up from Texas and a HUGE step up from OU) but in terms of where it's _easier_ to be the hot s#!t coach, they're definitely right up there with SC.

Probably better than Helton? They are not in the same stratosphere.Heman is a great coach, Helton is a horrible coach.

Exactly what makes Herman a great coach? He is in his 3rd year when coaches are generally expected to make that big leap to competing for the playoffs and a NC. He already has 2 losses - same as Helton

Not saying Herman is a great coach or not but both losses were to top 10 teams.

Losses to LSU and Chocklahoma, top 6 teams and both games were competitive. He has Texas in a much better place than Helton has USC in all aspects, especially game preparation, discipline, and recruiting.

This cannot be stressed enough. Not one prominent coach wants the job.

Wait, does this mean you no longer want Chip Kelly?
