What would a complete ass whooping be without a token snap over the QB's head? But, did my eyes deceive me, or did Fink really fail to go after the ball after he saw the Iowa defender bearing down on him?
Granted, the game was figuratively over after Iowa's first drive...and literally over after Slovis's injury...but I don't think I've ever seen a player fail to go after a live ball. Pathetic.

Seeing it live, Fink's reaction looked weird. Seeing the replay, it seemed like Fink tipped the ball and looked back for it. And when he couldn't see it land behind him, he turned back around to see if he'd actually knocked it forward. Just bad timing where he turned his head away from the ball, just as it would have been coming into his view.

At least, that was my read when watching it a couple times after the play.

    He ran away from it.
I had to rewind it and watch it again.

Yeah - I watched the replay a few times - I think he simply ran away from it as well - sure looked like he spotted it going over his head - turned to go after it - then stopped and looked over his shoulder at the Iowa defender.

Exactly Fink didn’t want anything to do with that hot potato....

It looked like he was hoping that it was an incomplete pass?

This is incorrect, Fink looked back to locate the Iowa defender. He knew where the balls was the whole time.

Scared sick just like his head coach.

It looked like he turned his head looking for someone to help get that loose ball and then said "oh sh*t now what do I do" when he didn't see anyone.

Only thing I’ve ever seen close to it was Cam Newton in the Super Bowl against the Broncos a few years ago, but that was not even close to what Fink did.

It was a microcosm of the game. Once they got hit in the mouth, our players wanted nothing to do with Iowa

    Hey!

He did exactly how he practiced for four years at USC. Avoid contact.

I am sure he got a hug from Clay for not getting injured.

He didn't go after it. He didn't chase it full speed or dive on it. He probably figured why waste the off season injured when the season is over anyways. In a way can't blame him for the self preservation but his reaction looked awkward on TV.

Funny how when Toa was making those errant snaps in the past other Helton coached QB's did chase them down. People need to stop blaming everything on Clay. They sound stupid. Clancy and Baxter are the main problems and they need to be replaced.

Saw it a couple times on the TV in the press box and what I wrote was my view after seeing it there. Had a chance to watch on the bigger TV at home after the game and you’re right. It looks like he located the ball as he goes back to get it and then looks for a defender or help from a teammate to recover it.

I told my kids after that play that it reminded me of the Cam Newton bail out in Super Bowl. Just another embarrassing moment during Helton's tenure.

My initial blurt, seeing it live on TV was, “Wow, that was weak!”

No, the main problem is Helton.
There was a video last night of our team not even knowing which end zone to warm up in before the game. I’m sorry, but that is something I’ve never even heard of before, even at the HS level.

Like the whole team ... lazy and don’t give a damn, just like the coach
Best part of that play was no one knew what the hell they were doing ... Vaughn’s came running in late Fink and the back didn’t know the snap count lol ... brilliant everyone wants me Harrell probably should have held practice after lazy Gomer called it off for a week

My initial reaction was that I thought the refs had blown a whistle....a second later it was anger at Fink for not even trying to go for the ball....after that I just poured myself another drink!
