Nah. ND control the game. Over 300 yds on the ground. Never felt that SC would win the game.

Would've been SC ball after the punt.

That call certainly didn't help, but the two field goals, especially the second one, should have been touchdowns. Helton will always throw the ball on 3 and 5 in two down territory instead of running it twice. It never fails.

I know what you're saying. I've seen these types of games before. One team dominates, but doesn't fully put the other away. There's always a bunch of if's, could've, and should've after games like this.

The real “cost us the game” moment came in the first quarter when Slovis underthrew Amon ra (who still should’ve caught the ball) for a should have been TD, settled for a field goal.
Fast forward and those 4 points put us in a position to win the game. Tough game

In any close game you can pick 2 or 3 game changing plays or shit calls by the refs.

Still could have winning our DE's were better than a HS freshman

Over 330 yards rushing, usually is the main cause for a loss. And we couldn't stop them the last drive, thats why we lost.

What cost us the game was the inability to stop the run, especially late. The offense gave us a chance with a strong second half, got us back to within three, but we couldn’t stop the ND running game that was getting 10 yds or so with every play on those few last drives.

I will say that ND did get away with a few holding calls on some of their big runs, but they just pounded us on that last drive.

Did they change the pass interference rule, our receivers were held every play

Thought the non-call of Kelly actually being on the field during the onside kick was a joke - I know an onside kick recovery is very low probability but you have to give the kicking team another chance after the penalty, correct? Doesn't hurt top get one more chance for that 1-50 play that an onside kick is.

Good thing this crew wasn't on the field in 2006 or they might have just let the clock run out on USC as the ND timekeeper tried to do.

That was a terrible call. That wasn't roughing the passer.

The reason we lost the game was our inability to stop ND run game. Just as deadly was Harrell & Helton's ineptness in knowing how to properly use Steppe in the 1st half to soften up the ND pass D. By the time they finally realized Steppe was the X factor it was way too late in the game.

Everybody watching the game knows Steppe would have been the difference maker if coaches recognized it. Harrell and Helton should have recognized it 3 games ago. Both of them should be fired for not being able to see the obvious.

How about the fade to Tyler Vaughn with a nd pulling his jersey and holding his arm, another 4points loss

I agree. ND just played with them like a cat with a mouse. BTW, ND ain't that tough.

Watch the tape on those ND runs, holding on every play. Usually a jersey grab, just obvious

I think it is less desirable to have visitors bring their conference's refs with them for intersectional games. This Pac-12 crew seemed buffaloed by ND Stadium atmosphere so they seemed intent on not calling an pass interference or holding on the Irish lest they be accused of favoritism. Same goes for the QB roughing call correctly noted by the telecast's officiating analyst as bogus. The "no-call" involving Vaughn may have cost USC the 4 points they needed for the win when they had to settle for a field goal on that red zone trip.

You can’t expect to win many games scoring only 3 points in the first half, nor do you deserve to. Helton & Company were owned in the first half. Too big a hole too dig out of for a Helton-led team. Kids fought hard and showed grit all the way to the end. Coaches let them down as usual. Clancy should resign ala Wazzu DC. Mobile QBs continue to be Clancy’s achilles heal.

So true. Bulldoze it in with Stepp twice!
We are so desperate for a better staff!
