And this is the curios thing. How old will you be when USC wins the PAC12 and defeats a BIG10 team in the rose bowl?
Yes I am old fashioned... I would be fine if we were in the PAC10 conference... or 8 for that matter.

 

I am 62, and I do not believe I will see USC even be in a CF playoff if it remains a four team entity.

If it expands to eight teams, we might see one or two in the next 20 years.

USC has not been a blue blood since 1979. Five great years out of 40 does not qualify. I expect the next 40 to be like the last 40.

I believe USC will be in some major bowls, but not a CFP.
2020 regardless of the outcome, will likely be USC's best year through 2025. USC might turn it around in 2025 if Helton is gone and USC starts getting top 10 classes again in 2023.

 

They've won 11 in 131 years...around once every 12 years, but they come in bunches so that's no help for an answer. Our winning percentage over those 131 years is less than .700, which means 8-4 is typical, not horrible. So a NC winning season is a total outlier. Good luck. You better learn to enjoy less.

It's definitely a concern.

That's why I feel so bad for the older people who have these past few years as their most recent memories of USC football.

Makes me angry at Helton, Swann, Haden, Lopes, Tessalone, Caruso -- all of them. If they were dying, they wouldn't want this as their final memory of their most loved institution.

 

I'm not sure some of those names love USC as much as we would like to think they do. Some of those names are responsible for making a mockery of their "beloved" USC.

 

For sure, they at least love ‘SC for the easy money they scored.

 

Okay, so I’ve SHARED this before...but it works here...

In 2001, after many years of up and DOWN disappointments, my father shared his FEAR that SC would NEVER play for a National Championship before he died...I told him I’d recently had a vision he’d get to see another championship, at least one, before he died.

It was truly a JOY to watch him ENJOY the Pete Carroll era...4th and 9 at South Bend was SPECIAL...66-19 beat-down of the bRuins was an AMAZING weekend for us, especially the fact that the weekend was 60 years to the weekend he had attended his first USC game. He said, “60 years ago, this weekend, I attended my first SC game, sat in the top row in the west end zone...” That day, we were in the 2nd row, 25 yard line, behind the UCLA bench. That weekend we enjoyed the BIG win, the Friday night players/parents pregame pep rally, we were guests of Coaches Seto and Carroll, that night Matt Leinart gave a GREAT “Beat the bRuins” speech! The game just made the ENTIRE weekend memorable for a lifetime...especially for my boys...and me and my dad.

Yes, he struggled through a couple disappointments in Corvallis during his “last days”, and he almost hated Texas and VY as much as ALL things powder-blue and, especially, Notre Dame...and the SNACTIONS sucked for him, BUT he did get to ENJOY a great run during the PC era... anything is POSSIBLE!

I am holding out that we will rise from the ashes like a Phoenix after the Clay Days... I want to see another championship. I am working on my longevity and hope to hit the century mark in thirty years with a couple of more NTs.

 

You are all youngsters. I am 71, and not too optimistic about playing in the Natty game let alone winning it as long as clueless in charge.

 

The odds drastically improve if Urban Meyer is hired. With an elite coach the NC usually happens within 4 years.

 

Yep. Its just a matter of commitment from the administration. I bet in 3-5 years, they'll realize they need to get serious, and so will hire a strong coach, and things will hum for a while. Then, something will happen that will put the program back into mediocrity.

 

What is wrong with you people? This team is on the bullet train from good to great. Starting in 2020, we'll be in the playoffs almost every year, and will win a NC at least once every 4 years.

Don't you pay attention to the HC?
