Gary B is an actuary. He was never in the front of the house and was never on the hook for hitting a nut. So he can talk about all of the theoretical shit without having to be proven wrong in real life.

Bill Clinton looks like a conservative compared to Trump, too, when it comes to fiscal conservatism.

Just pulling some snippets from this thread:

The liberal Dems were going to cancel the TPP, Trump did them a favor.

In the last Dem debate, the candidates ran against the policies of Barack Obama. That is a seismic shift, that the entire party has abandoned the policies of the most liberal President in history in a short 3 years because they are now not liberal enough. At least the Repubs still respect Ronald Reagan.

The deficit is a voter issue. There is no electoral consequence for blowing out the budget. The Tea Party is stone dead. Voters want no taxes and lots of free government benefits. That is on us as voters. Our fault.

Most voters want everyone to have healthcare as long as no one touches THEIR health insurance and somebody else pays for a government program. You want health care for everyone, implement a nice 24% VAT, like they do in Europe, then watch public sector workers howl like monkeys when a $30 pair of jeans gets a 9% sales tax and a 24% VAT.

The most popular vehicles in America are big trucks and SUVs. I was in Scotland for a month and saw maybe 3 pickup trucks and couple SUVs. All you saw were small four door sedans. Good luck telling Americans they have to drive Ford Escorts to save polar bears 6000 miles away.

JPL - American Resources mines Metallurgical coal. Metallurgical coal is used to make coke for steel production. It has nothing to do with the discussion. Production of thermal coal which is used by power generators is at a 41 year low.

BTW - There are four types of coal, so you have two more chances to be wrong.

Keen - We need to get Garage Mahal back on this board. He has been the only poster that had a clue about Economics. It's shocking to me how little knowledge exists on this board.

Today, we hit an epic inflection point, the 2yr/10yr yield spread inverted. It has only happened 2 previous times since we floated the dollar and both times we had significant recessions.

This morning the Swiss cut interest rates to minus 1% in an effort to devalue the Franc. There is a good chance that the US 10yr will invert. It is a certainty if Trump keeps up his trade war.

Even for the dumbest posters (think DJ and JPL), it should be obvious that when you cut interest rates while imposing taxes on goods sold, you are shooting yourself in the head. As bad as it will look, it is quickly approaching a time when Trump has to remove the tariffs.

FYI - I'm on the hook every day for my trades. This isn't theory, I'm sharing my trade positions on this board. It's been a very good year betting against Trump's policies.

Again, never had to hit a nut. If Trump is so good for you, why are you bitching.

As far as pussy mahal goes- he left because he couldn’t handle the humiliation of having every arrogant prognostication thrown back in his face. He was wrong about everything.

I told my friends in China that we are at war. They said "Does that mean our kid's tuition is going up?"

Now, there is one constant -- "our kid's tuition is going up" -- that history has shown is independent of anything as trivial as war/peace.

I guess one could repeat what a previous poster observed: Even Dems are running against Obama's reign. Reps consider Obama a failure, Dems consider him a failure...only the Board's lefties think he was a great leader, particularly the one that loves quoting Marx.

OK. Or maybe the Tea Party never really was about fiscal responsibility. Maybe it was just about partisan contempt for the occupant of the WH, masquerading as concern for the deficit.

And maybe it was about fiscal responsibility.
Are you throwing out a hypothetical for shits and giggles?

Why would you need to create a new group to do what you suggest? And then fight against the main Republican party at the same time?

I'm just saying that the same people who were in the Tea Party ranting about fiscal responsibility when Obama was POTUS don't seem to be too concerned about it these days. I wonder why....
