I think he is a good QB coach, the backups seemed ready to play, and he saw the talent in Slovis.

But as OC I am not sold yet. The RBs, and particularly Stepp were not used correctly. I don't know who decides on the RB rotation. Even if it's the RB coach I assume OC can override.

Very good OC, running a perfect scheme for our talent.

Our issues running the ball, defense and special teams are not his fault.

A real head coach would address those issues, and his offense would be even more potent.

I agree with his work when it comes to QBs. He is solid there for sure. I believe he also played to our strength, which is the WRs.

As far as running the ball, I think he did the best he could with the cards he was dealt. Losing your top 3 RBs for multiple games, no bueno. Rushing numbers went down at that point. When he had a full RB squad, our running game was fairly good, minus the Utah game. He should have used Stepp more and earlier, but it has been said he is weak in pass protection, it is what it is... you have 3 talented backs. Judging his time at N TX, I would say without the RB issues, he would have run much more.

In the end, he did what he was brought in to accomplish, offense was much improved in yards and most importantly, scoring was up like a touchdown/game over last year.

Relative to what I saw Monday night, our RBs aren’t very good. Both Clemson and LSU had guys who could make plays on their own, break tackles, elude tacklers, get to
    open space on their own.

And please, it wasn’t just O lines being better.

Very good. Main criticism would be, as others have said, usage of the running backs.

QB needs to be allowed to run more, including designed runs, especially when a guy like Fink is in there.

Finally, there must be a way to involve the TE in his offense.

I think he's a solid and upcoming air raid type coach, and the only coach on staff who would be poached by another team.

But I also feel his air raid offense does not belong at SC. His version relies too much on big-plays and receivers beating coverage 1-on-1. The QB's are getting destroyed without the threat of a real running game. Even if not used often, you have to put the QB under center sometimes. Lastly, any offense that doesn't put the QB under center for the Victory formation needs to go!

    Fight On!

Only positive thing going on, staff-wise, at USC these days.

I would still love to see what GH could do with a legit o-line.

Better than Tee. Needs to make his system more like a Oklahoma for it to truly work, use your damn RBs and TEs

Was just saying exactly this to a friend yesterday.

    — Potent “passing game”, fine.....”Air Raid” theme, not my idea of balancing the offense for big games. We’ve gone Cali 7-on-7....it’s not going to win in big boy football.

    — Defenses teeing off on our QBs, with no running game threat
    — Need to be under center for some part of the time, even some passing, to utilize quick hitting plays and to bring the QB sneak into play without tipping it off.

    — Harrell did fine, with what RBs he could muster each game. Definitely need to up the running game power, though.

Good qb coach. Good playcaller. Just wish he would use our tight ends more in the passing game (although, he did kind of use London in that detached te roll). I think we would have seen more of a running game if we wouldn't have had a massive amount of injuries at the position.

He did a very good job of using what he had available. Didn't see any NFL sure things anywhere
but wide out and so he used what was available.

Harrell is a band-aid for the SC program. One-dimensional offense that pads QB stats. Every "good" team that faced SC last year neutralized his offense by simply pressuring and/or injuring the QB. This is NOT SC football, this will NOT win championships. Hope he goes to the Eagles so Helton suffers and gets the boot by mid-season next year. Enough with the band-aids, burn the whole thing to the ground. Why handicap an incoming coach next year with these assistant extensions?

Disagree on one point....our OL play is terrible. A LOT of our issues stem from that corp not doing their job.

Now I think the talent out of HS is very good, it’s our S&C that’s a major problem, and our player development is even worse.

That’s on the coaches. As usual

The scheme isn’t the issue. Slovis/GH are one of the few bright spots on the team at the moment.
GH is paid to move the football, and if he kept running the ball into the D for no gain, everyone would be bitching, why doesn’t he throw it more?

He’s doing what he can with what he has.
